I. INTRODUCTION:

Group work is the process of two or more people in the same group combining, interacting, and
collaborating. By breaking down a large activity into smaller portions, each member will be assigned
the appropriate tasks based on their particular skills or abilities, allowing the work to be completed
quickly and successfully (Cohen and Bailey, 1997). Members of a group usually have similar
capabilities. Personal comments and evaluations on various facets on group 1 during assignment and
presentation on "New product and service development" work will be provided. Accordingly,
recommendations are also suggested in order to further improve the group work among each
members.

II. GROUP WORKING:

Our group 1 consists of 5 members including me (Long- group member), Phuong Linh as group
leader, Thao Dung, Quoc Huu and Nhu Quynh. Each group member was assigned a particular task
and distinct task based on their capabilities. Phuong Linh and I have accomplished the more difficult
tasks relating to the report, which comprises mostly of evaluation, analysis and creative
requirements. Dung was in charge of basic study and plan outline. The remaining two members, Huu
and Quynh, were responsible for smaller parts, such as mostly the theoretical part of the article.
Group 1 operated under the direction of Linh as the leader, each of the member was free to
contribute their ideas to the article.

Group 1 completed the assignment in a precise order and on schedule. We got together in a Google
Meet private meeting for our group after receiving the assignment brief to brainstorm ideas. Each
person has their own point of view, and we all agree on whether it is correct or incorrect. Following
the group leader's task delegation, the participants had no other opinions and were fully satisfied
with the portion they had gotten. Then we started getting together to brainstorm activity ideas. At
the meeting, the group took notes on all of the members' comments and recommendations, whether
correct or incorrect; we also discussed the idea's inventiveness as a group; and finally, we recognized
that my ideas to break down plan for Pizza’s Hut was suitable, and decided to execute them as main
company plan. We have an online meeting when we acquire the idea to further study the structure
5
of the assignment as well as the specific material of the members to write in the article. The group
leader gives each member precise instructions as well as deadlines for completing the assignment.
Before submitting the papers, the members submit a draft to receive formative feedback from the
lecturer first, who then corrects the errors. The members then receive their own errors and correct
them.

In addition to the aforementioned infomation, in Group 1, we worked quickly and productively. We

often communicated suggestions on the assignment since we are friends who have known each
other previously for a long time, so we can freely comment on each other without fear of being
judged. The fact that the groupwork environment is constantly pleasant and calm is the most
satisfying aspect. The members are aware of the importance of finishing the work ahead of schedule.

After finishing the project, Group 1 met as a group to re-read the entire assignment. After that, our
group examined the knowledge and absorbed the concepts of the entire lesson in order to prepare
for the presentation. The members took notes on essential themes and asked questions for each
segment of the course during the review session in order to better grasp the idea and concpet. Each
member was well-prepared in terms of knowledge and very comfortable giving presentations and
answering questions at the Q&A session.

Members often assist one another when one of them is having problems presenting. As a group
member, I discovered that our group did not have the maximum close communication to generate a
good result when evaluating the interactions among members during the working process. As I
reckon, only Linh and I took part in most group discussion, to find out the most appropriate idea for
the whole assignment.

Simultaneously, our group also presented our weaknesses in terms of pitching ideas when
presenting, resulted in the fact that we talked too much about a single sections of the report, and
having exceed the time limit for over 10 minutes. Although we did not fail the assignment, we have
to further improve our connection in the future for optimal and flawless results.

To Huu and Quynh, they were very distracted and often not focus during group meetings, on top of
that, their English limitations did curb them from having a smooth and flawless presentation,

6
resulted in a bad feedback from the lecturer. As for Dung, her capability is better than previous two
members, however, due to the low ability in English reading, she was unable to improve the quality
of her work. Though she was prompted to do her task and submit it for the group leader on time, but
the content of her portion was lacking and she made a spelling error; however, the group leader
provided help and eventually corrected the work fully. To Phuong Linh, her tasks quality was
oustanding and well-made, she possess great ability in terms of language, writing skills as well as
presenting skills, resulted in a flawless work given by her. She always keeps track of each group
member's progress, reminding them to complete their homework and carefully commenting on each
section. Her interactions with the members are crucial since they will be the glue that holds everyone
together for the best results. She also led the group to a very high standard with the Distinction
score. And therefore, she should not be criticised for anything.

As regards myself, as a group member, I did accomplish a very prominent task regarding media
planning. I am also always the right commentator for the discussions and the final taker for the
group, making the quality of our work get good results. My English skill was given feedback as
decent, and I did pretty well with the whole presentation. On top of that, I had some shortcomings
with the idea pitching, as I tool so much time for a single part.

From the above analysis, I would like propose some solutions to improve groupwork as following:

- Our group needs to achieve a specific and reasonable goal: it was clear that right from the very first
beginning, my group members did not have the same direction for mutual goal. There are only 2
members who have a desire to achieve a Merit or Distinction score, who are Linh and I, the other 3
members do not seem to be too conscious on the quality of the report. As a matter of fact, in next
group work, we should up our head to a common goal to obtain optimal results.

- Improve member interaction: During the process of doing the report, the group members did not
have close cohesiveness or communication. As a result, enhancing member communication will assist
knowledge and ideas become more complete and clear.

- Enhance language skills: As discussed, Huu and Quynh are the two members possessing the
weakest ability in terms of language among the team members. As long as their ability in English
would not

7
get any better, it would be difficult for the whole group to carry and to back up for them in a long
term.

III. PROJECT PITCH :

The final results were marked for the whole group, as it was a group assignment. Our result is
"Distinction" score, although we had not performed our best, we tried as a team to achieve our goal.
Linh, Dung and I were considered as decent presenter compared to the remaining two.

During the presentation, I think all the members did quite well. Despite her inadequate command of
the English language and ability to speak, Quynh did her best to complete her presentation. Similarly
to Huu, even though he does not speak English well, the teacher commends him for his effort; he
finished his presentation and responded well. Dung appears to lack confidence in her ability to give
presentations and respond to questions, but she has a thorough comprehension of the report and
thus passes. And last but not the least, the group leader – Linh, she did really well overall as her
abilities could cover all of the facets of the report including the assignment as well as the
presentation. Some aspects, in my opinion, can be altered to help the group and myself accomplish
better achievements, such as: We will discuss ideas and creativity more thoroughly together (the key
point of the exercise).

I think of myself as a good presenter with my knowledge and English skills. The teachers
complimented me on how well I answered the questions. However, I believe there are several flaws
that I need to work on, such as: speak too fast or unwell time managing, etc to make my presentation
more flawless. I believe that regular practice will be important in the future to develop my speaking
abilities. There will be no need to be concerned about the presentation's content unless there has
been significant preparation and practice, as well as a thorough grasp of the material. Active
interaction with listeners and the use of body language will help liven up the presentation and peak
the audience's interest.

Based on above analysis, I have some recommendations to further enhance the quality of the
presentation as following:

8
- Group members should prepare their knowledge as well as their presentation skills more
thoroughly. To be more precise, members must enhance their English language speaking skills in
order to ensure that the presentation is not only adequate in terms of content, but also produces an
effect on the audiences and listeners.

- Better idea pitching for and during presentation: I personally figure out that we did not choose the
appropriate information for the presentation. This is why the time management did not achieve the
balance we wanted. In order to get better results in the future, we should analyse the key
information and better pitching to further enhance our presentation.

- Group members should also gather together in a meeting one night before the presentation with an

aim to further prepare for the division of each member’s presenting portion, so that none of us
would be forget of what we would speak. On top of that, have a mutual meeting before the day
could literally help us to better transaction between the sections, which could result in a flawless
speech. Not only smoother transaction, but it is also allow the team to manage the limited time for
speaking better, exactly what we had not achieved in our latest performance.

- Last but not least, Linh as team leader should be the one who operate the presentation as a whole.
Meaning being a leader, at every section, she should coordinate other members’ performance such
as the speaking speed, content pitching and way to cope with the Q&A.

IV. CONCLUSION:

The report has delivered some of the issues with group 1 group assignment and presentation,
making some evaluation on each member of the group, and some recommendations for improving
cohesive communication and interaction in the future.
