Introduction
Checklists have been designed to provide pilots with a standard, predictable method of
operating aircrafts. They are there to minimize required attention in the cockpit while still
accomplishing required functions. Only those items for required safe operations are
included.

Normal procedure checklists may be completed as a do-list or a flow pattern. The

appropriate method for checklist completion is dependent upon the pilot workload for
each phase of flight.

Do-List:
• Do-list checklist is executed by reading the checklist item and selecting the appropriate
condition of the item.
• Do-lists are used when Procedure sequence and/or item condition is critical to
completion of the procedure and when ample time exists for completion of the
checklist.

Flow Pattern

The term “flow pattern” refers to a logical path through the cockpit that the pilot will
move along during the execution of the checklist. Flow patterns use a “do and verify”
approach to checklist completion. When used properly, flow patterns allow timely
configuration of the aircraft for the appropriate flight condition. Flow patterns are used
when procedure sequence and aircraft condition is not critical and there is an operational
advantage to executing the checklist items in a timely manner.

The flow pattern is executed by memorizing and executing the checklist without
immediate reference to the written checklists. Referencing the checklist as soon as time
and workload permit to ensure procedure completion.

⚠ The Manufacturer's Recommendations and FARs will be controlling over anything in

Preflight Cockpit
Upon arriving at the aircraft:
• Unlock all aircraft doors. Verify that the dispatch for matches the tail number of
the aircraft and verify that the Hobbs and Tach times are correct.
• Connect headsets and install any other devices you will use.
AROW – Check • Verify that the Airworthiness Certificate is
onboard and the tail number is correct.
• Verify the Registration is not expired and it
matches the aircrafts tail number.
• Locate the Pilots Operating Handbook and verify
it matches the aircraft.
• Verify current Weight and Balance is onboard and
the tail number matches.
Control Lock – Remove • Remove the control lock and store it behind the
pilot seat.
Ignition – Off • Verify the switch is in the OFF position and the
key is not inserted.
Avionics – Off • Verify the Avionics master is in the OFF position.
Note: Establishing ground power or onboard
power with the switch in the on position could
damage the avionics.

Master – On • Establish Battery power to the aircraft.

Avionics Fan – On • Listen for fan running behind the cockpit.
Flaps – Extend • Lower the Flap to the 30° and ensure they are
operating evenly.
Master – Off • Turn the switch off. If the flight is at night, verify
all lights work prior to shutting the master off.
Note: Leaving the master in the ON position for
extended period of time will drain the battery and
prevent engine start.

Completion of this checklist should trigger the commencing of the exterior walk around.

Note: Make sure all doors are closed before leaving the aircraft.
