ABSTRACT

DEPT. OF ECE KLS VDIT, HALIYAL

Metaverse

The Metaverse is the post-reality universe, a perpetual and persistent multiuser environment

merging physical reality with digital virtuality. It is based on the convergence of technologies

that enable multisensory interactions with virtual environments, digital objects and people such

as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Hence, the Metaverse is an interconnected

web of social, networked immersive environments in persistent multiuser platforms. It enables

seamless embodied user communication in real-time and dynamic interactions with digital

artifacts. Its first iteration was a web of virtual worlds where avatars were able to teleport among

them. The contemporary iteration of the Metaverse features social, immersive VR platforms

compatible with massive multiplayer online video games, open game worlds and AR

collaborative spaces.

Metaverse

1.INTRODUCTION
The Metaverse is a virtual reality world where users can interact, play games, and have real-life
experiences. A metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection. In
futurism and science fiction, it is often described as a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a
single, universal virtual world that is facilitated by the use of virtual and augmented reality
headsets.

The term "metaverse" has its origins in the 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash as a
portmanteau of "meta" and "universe." Various metaverses have been developed for popular use
such as virtual world platforms like Second Life. Some metaverse implementations involve
integration between virtual and physical spaces and virtual economies. Demand for increased
immersion means metaverse development is often linked to advancing virtual reality technology.

Recent interest in metaverse development is linked to Web3, a concept for a decentralized

iteration of the internet, although the term has been used as a buzzword to exaggerate
development progress of various related technologies and projects for public relations purposes.
Information privacy, user addiction, and user safety are concerns within metaverses, stemming
from challenges facing the social media and video game industries as a whole.

1.1 Metaverse:
The metaverse is a virtual reality world where users can interact, play games, and have real-life
experiences. It is a network of 3D virtual worlds geared on social interaction using computer
game headsets and gadgets. Using metaverse, Users can immerse themselves during this world
and interact with virtual objects and avatars within the visual presented in front of them
simultaneously

Metaverse

A virtual reality avatar is a first-person depiction in which the viewer observes the world through
the eyes of the avatar. Otherworld participants can view the avatar's upper torso, arms, but not
the lower limbs.

Avatars with full bodies - Sensors are utilized in a full-body avatar's kinematics system to mimic
and recreate the complete body's movements. As a result, the user has more movement within the
virtual world and may interact with digital objects using all of their limbs.

1.2 How to Build Metaverse?

1.3 How to build Metaverse Virtual World?

 Step 1: Choose a metaverse platform

Metaverse

 Step 2: Design the metaspace

 Step 3: Build an interaction layer

 Step 4: Build an interoperability layer

Step 1: Choose a metaverse platform

If you are planning to launch a metaverse space or an app, the first thing you need to do is to

choose a metaverse platform. You can either choose from the metaverse platforms that are already

launched in the market, for example, Facebook Meta. Or, you can choose to build your own

metaverse platform from the scratch. Obviously, the second option is costlier but more apt for

custom metaverse requirements, especially for enterprises. The platforms available in the market

today are mostly in their nascent stages and for that reason, the features, functionalities, developer

communities are not that evolved. Meta, formerly Facebook is the biggest name in metaverse

space today, and it is expected to be the largest metaverse platform, given the fact that Meta owns

some of the biggest social media networks in the world and have easier access to the world

population to build up an early mover consumer community. But Meta isn’t the only player out

there, a strong competition is put forth by Microsoft. Microsoft Bets on ‘Metaverse’ with $69B

acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Large and small, several players have introduced metaverses.

You can choose the right platform based on your project idea, or build a custom metaverse

altogether.

Metaverse

Step 2: Design the metaspace

Once you have figured out the metaverse platform, the next step as obvious is to design the

metaspace. A metaspace can be an app, a virtual meeting room or a virtual conference hall, or

even a virtual home theatre. Metaspace is a virtual space, that can be accessed via a VR headset.

Inside metaspace, people can interact with the environment and other people in it. So, if your idea

is to build a virtual meeting room for your business, you have to design the virtual metaspace that

can be added to the metaverse.

For designing the virtual 3D space, you’ll need the help of a multimedia development company

that focuses on 3D designing and virtual reality development. If you need help with this piece,

feel free to reach out to us. Below given is a metaverse POC we developed for one of our clients

in the hospitality industry.

Step 3: Build an interaction layer

The third step is to build an interaction layer so that your user can interact within the metaspace

you have designed. For example, a 3D model of a meeting room is useless with the option for

people to interact inside it. The interaction layer defines the user controls, access criteria,

navigation controls, communication protocols for the communication between the users. The

interaction layer also defines the integrations with third-party tools and software that are needed

to support the functioning of the metaspace. For example, if you need a Zoom call feature within

your virtual metaspace, you should be having provisions to integrate Zoom APIs or SDKs into the

metaspace you are building. It also takes care of the hardware components, external output

devices like haptic gloves, smart glasses, virtual goggles, VR headsets, sensors, etc.

Metaverse

Step 4: Build an interoperability layer

Interoperability standards for enabling the operational processes to support the exchange and

sharing of information between different systems. The goal of interoperability is to access and use

data and digital objects autonomously by both humans and machines. Interoperability standards

are a common language which is a set of common expectations that enable interoperability

between two parties. Metaverse supports payment gateways that allow the transfer of virtual

money/crypto. Choosing a blockchain to route the secure, transparent, and decentralized

transactions is required to have a fully functioning virtual world.

Implemented Technology in Metaverse

1. Blockchain

 Blockchain technology is a decentralized digital currency.

 Cryptocurrencies are expected to become the primary means of exchanging goods

and services in the metaverse.

Metaverse

2.Virtual Reality

 Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-generated 3D world.

 Using headsets and electronic gadgets, users can enter the virtual world.

3.Augmented Reality

DEPT. OF ECE KLS VDIT, HALIYAL

Metaverse

 Virtual information and objects are stacked in the real world.

 User are not isolated from real world but still can interact with the virtual world.

4. Artificial Intelligence

 Al aids in the construction of Metaverse assets.

 Al is speeding up the software development process, allowing developers to create more

complex Metaverse.

5. 3D Modeling

 3D modeling is the basis of Metaverse.

 Creating a 3D Virtual environment succeeded using 3D modeling technology.
