Length of rectangular portion = 2.5
Width of rectangular portion = 2
Diameter of circular portion = 0.001
Height between Surface 2 and 3= 1.5
For the purpose of curtailment design and taking care of variable pier section with height; there is a facility to divide the pier
into 6 sections (equal spacing) if necessary. See the input table at I-54 for unequal spacing of sections.
Pier has been assumed as a generalized section with 2 parts; one is central rectangular section and the other is two half
circles.

1. If span is less than 22m or more than 37m, indicate no. of axel on the span for respective loading for the purpose of
calculation of tractive and braking forces
2. The distribution of longitudinal forces to pier depends on the type of bearing. In case of neoprene bearing when no extra
restrainer like seismic block are provided, all the horizontal forces are taken by the neoprene bearing by equal distribution i.e.
50% of the force will come to the pier under consideration and balance 50% will go to other end of the girder.
If Seismic restrainer / shear block is introduced to fix one end of the girder then all the forces (100%) of that span will be
transferred to the pier under consideration. Other end neoprene bearing will not take any load.
As per IRS Bridge rule these forces may be DISPersed to adjacent span; the forces as calculated in page-3 includes such
DISPersion on the basis of percentage indicated in the input data.
Therefore it is important to define such condition as given
below
For Max Pier Load : Both Span Loaded (with Single Lane / Track Loaded) - BSOT
Left Span :- Live Load T 59.10 59.10 axel for span of length 34
Right Span :- Live Load T 44.53 44.53 axel for span of length 34

Ideally these reactions are to be calculated by moving load analysis; however for quick assessment of reactions are done on the basis
of crude method i.e. by trial and error as default value.
Values of moving loads are for DMRC loading, in case of other train load these data are need to be modified. This calculation has got
limitation as it is based on 4 cars only with uniform axel load.

FORCES DUE TO CURVATURE AND ECCENTRICITY OF TRACK (Refer Clause 8.4 of DBR)
The Centrifugal Force is calculated on the basis of Clause 2.5 of IRS Bridge Rule. As the rails are fixed directly on RCC plinth, the eccentricity of
rail track is ignored. EUDL (W) has been calculated from the table given in Appendix-II for MBG, which is for 25 T axel Load. This is an
conservative approach. As an alternative, Reactions based calculations are detailed below in page 4A; which is more appropriate especially for
multi tracks.

Note-1: As per clause 2.12.6 of Bridge Rules:- Horizontal seismic force due to live load on the bridge shall be ignored when acting in the direction
of traffic but when acting in the direction perpendicular to traffic, this is to be considered for 50% of the design live load without impact.
Note-2:- As per 1.5.1.2 of the Design Basis Report of Tender Document, For calculating the stresses due to vertical effect of live load, 50% of the
design live load will be considered at the time of earthquake.

Remarks (if any):- 1. To get both side load, single side loads are simply multipiled by 2 for avoiding another logical step to the
spread sheet.
2. Transverse moment includes moment due to eccentricity for curvature for FFLL and due to incidental horizontal loads.
Moments are calculated at Top of Level, moment = force * (level of action of force - top of pile cap level)

Permissible stresses for both steel and Concrete shall be increased by 50% as per Clause 222.2 of IRC 6 -2014.
Total Resultant Moment at top of Pile Cap due to Collision Load =SQRT(^2+^2)
= 419.26 T-m
Resultant Moment at top of Pile Cap due to Derailment Load = 1132.34 T-m
It is Clear from above comparison that Derailment Load is more Critical than Collision Load. Hence instead of collision load
Derailment load is considered in Design Calculation.
