Cop Project

This document provides instructions for a math project where students determine if two quantities are in a proportional relationship. Students will choose an item to purchase, a job they can do, and the rate of pay. They will then create an equation, table, and graph to show the proportional relationship and how long it would take to save for the item.

MTH.RP.07. Students will determine if two quantities are in a proportional relationship.

01.LT.01

Step 1: Go on https://www.amazon.com/ or any other shopping site and find an item

you’d like to purchase.

Step 2: Think of an oddjob that you are currently able to do (mow lawns, shovel

driveways, weed gardens, babysit, etc.). Choose a specific job.

Step 3: Ask an adult either at home or at school how much money they would pay you

for said job. This will be your COP/Unit Rate. Specify if it is per hour, per lawn, per

week, etc.

Step 4: Create your y = kx equation. Along with the statement that explains the

equation.

Step 5: Make a table and a graph with said equation.

Step 6: Create a write up and presentation with all the information above that concludes

with how long it would take to save up for an item that you are looking to purchase.
