FAULT CODE 155 - Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor - Engine Protection
TROUBLESHOOTING SUMMARY

STEP 1: Check the sensor accuracy.

TROUBLESHOOTING STEP
STEP 1: Check the sensor accuracy.
STEP 1A: Verify the sensor accuracy with a thermocouple or similar temperature probe.
Condition:
• Turn keyswitch ON.
Action Specification/Repair Next Step
Connect a temperature probe of known quality Sensor reading correct? 2A
and accuracy to the engine near the intake YES
manifold temperature sensor.
The probe must extend into the air flow and Sensor reading correct? Fault Code
must not touch the intake manifold except at the 154
probe threads. NO
• Connect INSITE™ electronic service tool to
the vehicle datalink.
• Compare the intake manifold temperature
sensor reading on the service tool monitor
screen to the reading from temperature probe.
If no temperature measuring device is available,
answer "Yes" to this step.

STEP 2: Check the operation of the thermostat.
STEP 2A: Verify that the thermostat opens and closes within guideline temperatures.
Condition:
• Turn keyswitch OFF.
Action Specification/Repair Next Step
Check for correct operation of the thermostat. Thermostat operation normal? 3A
• Use the following procedure in the Service YES

QSK19 CM2150 MCRS in Bulletin Number
4021592. Refer to Procedure 008-013 in Thermostat operation normal? 3A
Section 8. NO
Note: Test the LTA thermostat. Repair:
Replace the thermostat. Use the following
procedure in the Service Manual, QSK19,
QSK19 CM850 MCRS, QSK19 CM2150
MCRS in Bulletin Number 4021592. Refer to
Procedure 008-013 in Section 8.
STEP 3: Clear the fault codes.
STEP 3A: Disable the fault code.
Condition:
• Connect all components.
• Turn keyswitch ON.
Action Specification/Repair Next Step
Start the engine and allow it to warm up to Fault Code 155 inactive? 3B
normal operating temperature to verify that the YES
fault code has gone inactive.
Fault Code 155 inactive? 1A
NO
Repair:
Return to the troubleshooting steps. Use the
Intake Manifold Air Temperature Above
Specification Symptom Tree, in Section TS in
Service Manual, QSK19,QSK19 CM850
MCRS, QSK19 CM2150 MCRS, Bulletin
4021592 or contact a Cummins® Authorized
Repair Location, if all steps have been
completed and checked again.

STEP 3B: Clear the inactive fault codes.

• Connect all components.
• Turn keyswitch ON.
