Engine Coolant Temperature 1 Sensor Circuit QSK50 and QSK60 Power Generation Engines
Circuit Description
The engine coolant temperature 1 sensor is used by the ECM to monitor the engine coolant
temperature. The ECM monitors the voltage on the signal pin and converts this to a temperature
value. The engine coolant temperature value is used by the ECM for the engine protection
system and for engine emissions control.

The QSK50 and QSK60 engine coolant temperature 1 sensor is located in the thermostat
housing. The QSK38 engine coolant temperature 1 sensor is located in the thermostat housing
on Industrial and Power Generation applications and in coolant sensor housings on the Marine
applications. 100-002 in Section E for a detailed component location view.

Shoptalk
There are multiple ECMs for the engine models included in this manual. Each ECM has an
individual source address that displays when INSITE™ electronic service tool is connected.
When troubleshooting a fault code, use the source address displayed in INSITE™ electronic
service tool to determine which ECM and circuit is affected.
This fault code indicates that coolant temperature has exceeded the engine protection limits for
high coolant temperature.
