Activity 1: Analyzing the Curves
Objectives:
Infer that understanding the relationship between the angle of projection, the maximum height and range of projectile
help improve the performance in sports and in other fields in real life through picture analysis.
Instructions:
Below is a graph of different trajectories of a soccer ball launched at different angles assuming the initial force is
constant and air resistance is ignored. Study the illustration and answer the corresponding guide questions.
Activity 2:
Fill in the Blanks: There are more examples of objects in projectile motion given below. Supply the
most possible answer to the events with regards to projectile motion.
Q1: Given the same initial velocity, what happen to the highest point of the monkey if the angle of
inclination is increased?
The monkey will have zero velocity at the highest height if its beginning velocity is the same.
Because of the gravitational force, the monkey's velocity drops as it jumps. The monkey's velocity
will be zero at maximum height because it will come to a complete halt at the highest point
before falling back to the earth.
Q2: If the angle of inclination is decreased when shooting a basketball, is there a change on its
trajectory path? How? Why?
If the angle of inclination is decreased when shooting a basketball, there is a change on its
trajectory path because it will have a longer range. A parabolic path is formed when an item is
hurled upward at an angle other than 90 degrees. When the projection angle is 45 degrees, the
maximum range is reached. If the projection angle is less than or equal to 45 degrees, it will
fall close to the projecting body.
Activity 3: The Angular Fountain
Objectives:
• Investigate the relationship between the angle of release, the maximum height and
the range of a projectile with initial force as the constant and the angle as the
variable.
Materials:
Faucet
Hose
Basin
Instructions:
1. Before turning on the faucet, make sure the hose is connected. If you don’t have hose
at home, you may want to try to ask your neighbor or a relative or a classmate to
try this activity in their house. This will not take much time anyway and we see to it
not to waste any water.
2. Remove the sprinkler if there’s any. Hold the other end of faucet in three different
angles doing the steps three times. First, is hold the end of the faucet in a 70° degree
angle just like in illustration A below.
45° 20° 70°
The range of the projectile is the horizontal displacement of the projectile
and is determined by the object's starting velocity. The range of a
projectile will be the same if it is projected at the same start speed but at
two complementary angles of projection.
