SOGIE Bill
It is a fact that people fighting for gender equality is still a continuing issue
in today's society. It is sad to think that a lot of people still think that gender
equality is still not part of our rights as human beings. The barrier that the
LGBTQ+ community still faces is still present, as there are still people who believe
that it really exists in our community maybe because we tend to have our own
beliefs and have a totally different understanding of it. What's worse is that
discrimination is present, like that one issue here in our country where a trans
woman was arrested after using the women's comfort room. They cannot seem to
accept that transgender women are women and are not like some men who use that
term to "pretend" to sexually assault women. Although there are a lot of cases in
that women are assaulted in public bathrooms, I think it is unfair to treat
transwomen like that because those issues are not the same. There are also
instances of discrimination in stores where they are not allowed to buy or go inside
of that store because they are not women and especially when it comes to
employing a lot of companies are strict in their work environments thinking that
they might spread their sexuality like it’s some infectious virus.
Honestly, it is so saddening to think that it still exists in today’s society,
because I believe that each and every one of us is equal. What is important is what
you are as a person who can contribute to society and what you do for others. That
is why I am in favor of the SOGIE Bill wherein it is also known as the Sexual
Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression, or Anti-Discrimination Bill.
Unfortunately, it is still not approved by the government and because of that, you
can clearly see how our society pictures the LGBTQ+ community as this bill is for
them, to be protected from acts of discrimination and the stigma around it because
it is also their rights. Maybe because of the misconceptions about the SOGIE bill
but in reality, it is just to prevent acts of discrimination against people based on
their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression it is not to give way to
same-sex marriage no, that is a different issue. There is a lot of progress in our
society today, technology keeps on upgrading, and the way we live is also not its
used to be in the past so why is it so difficult to accept this? To give it to the people
who need it? What I also like to add in provision no. 3 of the SOGE bill is the
employment, people who reject an applicant because of their sexuality but are
qualified, and a public apology under the provision of SOGIE sec. 6.
