FACE-TO-FACE EVENTS:

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR VOCAL
SOLO
Guidelines:
• The contest consists of one round only (No elimination and final round).
• Participants must be qualified students of the University of Southern
Mindanao. Outsiders are not allowed to join.
• Each College must only have one entry.
• Each contestant shall sing one straight published Original Pilipino Music
(OPM) song, only Filipino songs are allowed. Rearrangement of an OPM
song is allowed.
• Singing shall be accompanied by a minus one. Videoke/Karaoke and live
accompaniment shall not be allowed.
• Contestants must submit their minus one accompaniment 4 days before the
main event.
• Delivery of entry has a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes.
An excess of a minute means a deduction of 5 points per judge.
• All contestants must follow the pandemic health protocols implemented by the
IATF.
• Judges’ decision is final and irrevocable.

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR DUET
Guidelines:
• The contest consists of one round only (No elimination and final round).
• Participants must be qualified students of the University of Southern
Mindanao. Outsiders are not allowed to join.
• Each College must only have one entry.
• Pairs may be composed of both females, both males, or one female and one
male.
• Participants shall sing one straight published Original Pilipino Music (OPM)
song, only Filipino songs are allowed. Rearrangement of an OPM song is
allowed.

accompaniment is not allowed.

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR HIP-HOP DANCE GROUP
Guidelines:
• Each college must have a representative
• Dance Group has a minimum of 7 representatives and a maximum of 10
representatives.
• Participants must be bona fide students of the University of Southern
Mindanao. Outsiders are not allowed to join.
• The duration of the dance should be a minimum of 3 minutes, and a maximum
of 5 minutes.
• Any kind of hip-hop dance is allowed (locking, popping, krump, house,
stepping, breakdance, wacking, tutting, vogueing, party dances, hip-hop
choreography) or any kind of dance with hip-hop as their focal thought of
choreography, provided that the choreographers of the group have the proper
knowledge or background to execute it properly.
• Any safe props allowed (no fire or pyrotechnics allowed under any
circumstances)
• The music can be a remix and must not contain inappropriate, lewd, or
offensive language.
• No vulgarity, obscenity, or explicit content is allowed.
• Attire may include accessories such as hats, scarves, caps, gloves, jewelry,
etc. Removing pieces of clothing during the performance is permitted
provided it is not offensive or out of character

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR MR. AND MS. FRESHMEN
• Each college must have one male representative and one female representative,
both of which: are bona fide students of the University of Southern Mindanao.
• Representatives of each college must be a freshman.
• There are no height requirements.
• The candidates’ score is 30% from the reactions on Facebook (photoshoot
pictures) and 70% from the judges
• Only the top 5 from the male and female categories will proceed to the final
round of the competition.
• Failure to follow the said guidelines will be automatically disqualified.
Mechanics
Candidates will be required to prepare for and participate in the following portions of the
competition:
o FESTIVAL ATTIRE
o PRELIMINARY Q&A
o FORMAL ATTIRE/LONG GOWN
o FINAL Q&A OF THE TOP 5 CANDIDATES
Festival Attire:
1. In this portion the candidates must be able to showcase their Haute Couture/
Festival Attire (they picked out from the draw) and show off their confidence
on stage.
2. Back dress is not allowed, headdress is allowed but the size must range from
1-2 ft. only
3. Haute Couture must be appropriate and not too revealing for the candidates,
especially for Female Candidates.
4. NO DIS-ROBING (REMOVAL OF CLOTHING ITEMS) WHILE ON STAGE.
Doing so will result in disqualification!
Formal Attire/Long Gown:
1. All contestants must have their Formal Attire/long gown attire.
2. Delegates must carry themselves with dignity, grace, poise, and elegance.
Judges will not be evaluating the cost or designer label of the gown, but
rather how well it suits the delegate (e.g., fit, color, style) as well as the
delegate's on-stage presentation
3. Contestants will follow a runway pattern when modeling.

Guidelines:
• Participants must be bona fide students of the University of Southern Mindanao.
Outsiders are not allowed to join.
• Each college must have one representative.
• Use of swear words in the speech is strictly prohibited, failure to follow this
guideline will be automatically disqualified.
• Attire must be decent and must be a representation of your college.
• The duration of the Pep Talk has a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5
minutes.
• All contestants must follow the pandemic health protocols implemented by the
IATF.
• All contestants must wear a sash representing their respective Colleges.

• Participants must go and stay to their assigned areas.

Guidelines:

Must have an element of feature writing.
Participants must stay to their assigned areas through the whole duration of the
event.

SPEAKING
Guidelines:
Each of the colleges must have an entry.
All contestants shall have a 3-minute preparation upon receiving the chosen
topic.
All contestants shall be given 3-minute time delivery.
Use of swear words in the speech is strictly prohibited, failure to follow this
guideline will be automatically disqualified.
Participants may bring with them a clean sheet of paper and pen for outline and
other related matter.
All contestants must follow the pandemic health protocols implemented by the
IATF.

GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR QUIZ BEE
General Rules
• All colleges must have one (1) entry and consist of 3 participants.
• The contest will be divided into three (3) rounds; Easy, Average, and Difficult
• The contestants should be in the place of the competition fifteen (15) minutes
before the scheduled time. Immediate disqualification will be implemented for
those contestants who failed to show up ten (10) minutes after the supposed
start of the quiz bee.
• Clarifications regarding the rules of the competition shall be entertained by the
Committee before the start of the competition.
Easy and Average Rounds
• The Easy and Average round consist of (20) questions, ten (10) for the Easy
round also for the Average.
• The coverage of the quiz will come from the Latest version of the Student
Handbook.
• For the Easy round it will be fill in the blank.
• For the Average round it will be an Identification.
• Each Question shall be given a predetermined number of points corresponding to
its round. One (1) point for the easy, and two (2) points for the Average.
• The Question shall be read twice, Afterwards, the quiz master will say “GO”, only
then the contestants may start writing their answers on the paper, and at the
same time, the start of the countdown timer. All participants should raise their
pens and show their answers after the time allotted for the specified question.
• Misbehavior of a team during the contest is a sufficient condition for
disqualification.
• Top six (6) with the highest scores shall be advanced to the difficult round.
• If a tie exists the match shall go into a Sudden Death, A participant first to answer
two (2) questions correctly shall be advanced to the difficult round.
Difficult Round
• The Difficult Round shall consist of ten (10) questions.
• Each question shall be given a predetermined number of points corresponding to
its round. The Difficult Round will be three (3) points.
• The Question shall be read twice, afterwards, the quiz master will say “GO”, only
then the contestants may start writing their answers on the paper, and at the
same time, the start of the countdown timer. All participants should raise their
pens and show their answer after the time allotted for the specified answer.
• Misbehavior of a participant during contest is a sufficient condition for the
disqualification of this participant
• Top three (3) individuals with the highest scores gathered shall be declared the
Champion, 1st placer, and 2nd Placer.
• If a tie exists, the match shall go into a Sudden Death, the participant first to
answer two questions correctly shall be declared the winner of the tie.
ONLINE EVENTS
GUIDELINES AND CRITERIA FOR FB FRAME
Guidelines:
• Each college must have its own frame.
• The layout of the frame should be related to the theme: Festival (what their
college picked out from the draw)
• The color of the frame should match the color of the respective college.
• USM, USG, and College logos must be present in the FB Frame.

Guidelines:
• Each of the colleges must have an entry.

• Must use 1/2 Illustration board, Materials (Oil Pastel, Pencil, Boards) must be
provided by the Local Student Government.
