MENG 201: Materials Science


Semester I / 2022-23

To be more familiar with the different types of materials and their usage, you have to
search the following information using internet, books or any other relevant sources:

1. Name five specific materials each for the four major classes of materials, i.e.
Metals, Ceramics, Polymers and Composites.

2. Identify the sub-class to which each of the specific materials, you have selected,
belongs.

3. Identify the application (use) for each of the selected materials.

4. Identify the critical property, which enable these materials to be used for the
selected application.

5. Name any two specific Ferrous Metals and Alloys, and any three specific Non-
Ferrous Metals and Alloys. 

6. What are the important distinguishing properties of Ceramics? 


  
7. Define Composites.  Name any two specific composite materials, and identify
one application of composite materials.
