Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under
pressure.

Cat 2 C 8

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size
leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and
possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be

treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and
repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool

Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and

mandates.

This method involves measuring the margin pressure with a differential pressure gauge while the
implement is in the FLOAT position. The margin pressure is the difference between the implement pump
pressure and the pressure in the load sensing line. The load sensing line connects to the pump control

valve on the implement pump. Margin pressure must be read while the implement is in the FLOAT
position.

Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting

Note: Bring the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature before performing any hydraulic testing.
Temperature range for testing is 68° ± 14°C (155° ± 25°F).

1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and
personnel. Lower the work tools to the ground.

2. Allow only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel away from the machine or in the view
of the operator.

3. Engage the parking brake.

Typical example

4. Place the steering frame lock in the LOCKED position.

Reference: For more information about preparing the machine for troubleshooting, refer to the
Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" for the
machine that is being serviced.

Release System Pressure

Note: All H-Series machines are equipped with electrohydraulic controls. Turn the engine start
switch key to the ON position before performing Step 1. Turn the engine start switch key back to
the OFF position after completing Step 1.

1. Move the implement control levers several times through the full range of travel. This will relieve
any pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system.

2. Push in the plunger for the hydraulic tank breaker relief valve until all pressure is released.

1. Loosen locknut (11). Turn adjustment screw (10) clockwise in order to increase the margin
pressure. Turn adjustment screw (10) counterclockwise in order to decrease the margin pressure.

One full turn of adjustment screw (10) changes margin pressure by approximately 1841 kPa
(267 psi).
2. After you turn adjustment screw (10), hold adjustment screw (10) in place and tighten locknut (11)
to a torque of 30 ± 7 N·m (22 ± 5 lb ft).

3. Repeat the test in order to verify that pressure is within the specified range by starting with Step 3
of the Test for Margin Pressure.
