NARRATIVE REPORT

Section: - Daunkalan (Excl.) – Patiala (Excl.) – Dhablan- Nabha (Excl.) Doubling.

A PARAGRAPH OF ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT

DAUNKALAN-PATIALA, PATIALA-DHABLAN and DHABLAN-NABHA covering a


length of 27.876Km is a part of Sanctioned Work namely Rajpura-Bathinda Doubling of
Ambala Division of Northern Railway. The work was sanctioned in the year 2015-16 vide Pink
Book Item No. 47 with original cost of ₹1251.25Cr as per ED(W) Rly Board Letter
No.2015/w2/NR/DL/DPR/47 Dt 5.7.2018. The revised cost is ₹1769.24 Cr. as per
RVNLSanctioned Detailed Estimate No. 2018/RVNL/CPM/RPJ-BTI-DB/EST dated
14/08/2018. Now, the doubling works in 03 Block Sections i.e. Daunkalan (Excl.) – Patiala
(Excl.) – Dhablan- Nabha (Excl.) Doubling are proposed to be opened to passenger traffic.

With introduction of the proposed doubling, the new line/track constructed on the Left Hand
Side of the existing track between 19.546km to km 23.923 shall be designated as UP Main
Line and the new line/track constructed on the Right Hand Side of the existing track between
km 25.856 to km49.585 shall be designated as Dn Main Line. The portion consists of 03 nos
block sections - Daunkalan (Excl.) – Patiala (Excl.) – Dhablan- Nabha (Excl.) Doubling

B DESCRIPTION OF NEW LINE


The Doubling between DAUNKALAN-PATIALA, PATIALA-DABHLAN and
DABHLAN-NABHA covering a length of 26.841, has been constructed as under;

C LAND BOUNDARY AND FENCING

The width of Railway Land available on the sides of the existing line was sufficient for
providing the Proposed New Line.
D FORMATION

The new formation is an extension of the existing one, where the total top width including the
new formation in embankment has been kept minimum13.16 m by laying the track at 5.30m
from the centre of the existing track.

A cess width of 1030mm beyond the edge of ballast has been provided on the new formation.
On the entire section, 700mm thick blanketing layer consisting of graded material has been
provided as per RDSO guidelines.

Earth-work in the new formation has been mechanically compacted and provided with side
slope of 2H: IV as per site conditions.

E CURVES AND GRADIENTS

Curves: -
There are 03 Nos. Curves on the new UP Line and 17 no. curves Dn Lines of the proposed
section. Degree of the Sharpest curve is 3.0 degree for a total length of 614.08m.

Gradients: -

NBA-CTW
The Steepest Gradient, in DN Direction of movement of train, in Rise/Fallon the section is 1
in 300 for lengths of 967.78m Fall.

The details of Gradients are given in the Book-let.

F KILOMETER AND GRADIENT POSTS

a. Standard type Kilometre Posts and OHE Mast mountedNumber Plates have been
provided at site for the newly laid track.

b. Standard Gradient Posts have been provided at every change of grade along the new line.
G BRIDGES

There are total 36 Nos. of bridges. Out of these, 03 Nos. Bridges are Major Bridges and
33Nos. are Minor Bridges. Substructures of all these minor/major have been provided for
DFC loading & superstructure has been provided for standard of 25T loading of 2008.

All the Minor Bridges have been provided as extensionsof the bridges under the existing
track. Minimum 1.00m span of Minor Bridge has been provided on the proposed bridge as
per RDSO Guidelines.

Major Bridges are on 7.500m from centre line of existing track.

32 Minor Bridges have been provided with RCC box as extension of existing bridges under
the proposed track, whereas 01 minor bridge is extended as 2 X 6.10 M PSC slab. Major
bridges have been constructed at a distance of 7.5m apart from the existing track . Same water
way or more as available on the bridges of existing line has been provided for the bridges on
the new double line also. Minimum 1.00m span of Minor Bridge has been provided on the
proposed bridge as per RDSO Guidelines

H LEVEL CROSSINGS

There are total 10Nos. existing Level-Crossings (LC Nos. 40,41,45 46, 47, 49, 50, 52, 53, 55
on the existing Single Line Section. All the Level-Crossings are manned. All these 10 Nos.
Level-Crossings have been extended for the New Line. There are Nil Un-Manned Level-
Crossings in the proposed NBA-KLSX inspection section.

I PERMANENT-WAY
a. Rail and fastenings: -
The Permanent-way consists of 60kg (UIC), 90UTS Rails welded into LWR/SWR by
FB/AT Welding (SKV process) over Main Line and Loop Lines over the section.

b. Fish Plates: -
1.00m long Fish Plates with 140mmx 25mm New Fish-Bolts with hexagonal Nuts as per
drawing No. T-1899 &T-11501have been used.

c. Sleepers and fastenings: -


Main Line: - PSC wider base sleepers complete with Elastic Fastenings (ERCs, Rubber
Pads and Metal/GFN Liners) with Sleeper Density of 1660 Nos. Sleepers/km have been
laid as per LWR Section.

Loop Lines: - PSC Ordinary Sleepers complete with Elastic Fastenings (ERCs, Rubber
Pads and Metal/GFN Liners) with Sleeper Density of 1540 Nos. Sleepers/km. have been
laid as per LWR Section.

d. Points and Crossings: -


60kg (UIC), 90UTS, Points & Crossings with Thick-Web Switches laid on Fan-Shaped
PSC Sleepers have been used.

All the Passenger Trains negotiating Turn-outs are of 1 in 12,Thick Web Switches
(LH/RH) for Main Line, Loop Lines and Over-Runs Lines except the turn-outs laid in
Loop Lines for non-passenger lines, which are of 1 in 8½ Curved Switches.

60kg Derailing Switch Points on PSC Turnout Sleepers have been provided wherever
required for isolation.

e. Ballast: -
65mm gauge hard stone machine crushed ballast with cushion of 350mm on Main Line
and 250mm in Loop Lines below the bottom of sleepers has been provided under the track
and Turn-outs. The newly laid track and turn outs have been thoroughly packed manually
and machine packing will be done before commissioning.

f. Guard Rails: -
There are 03 Major Bridge on the section under consideration, two are PSC Girder Bridge
(4x6.1m) and 01 is 14 X 12.20 PSC U Slab. Standard Guard Rails have been provided on
all the major bridges.
J SIGNALLING AND INTELOCKING

NBA-CTW-KLSX station yards have been provided with new Electronic Interlocking
Route Setting Type Standard–II.

K OVERHEAD TRACTION EQUIPMENTS

i. The type of OHE installed on BG Line of the section is simple conventional with
swivelling brackets having automatically regulated tension in the conductors.

ii. The tension in Catenary and contact wires is 1000kgf each.

iii. The contact wire is hard drawn grooved cooper with 107sqmm cross section supported by
means of in span droppers from Catenary which is standard (19/2.10) with 65 sqmm cross
section made up of cadmium copper.

iv. The maximum wind pressure for design of masts and foundations has been taken as
155kgf/sqm.

v. The overhead equipment has been designed for a maximum speed of 160kmph.

L SATION BUILDING AND AMENITIES

At NBA, CTW and KLSX stations, new E.I. Buildings have been provided to suit the fresh
requirement of S&T.

M LOCOMOTIVE AND ROLLIGN STOCK

NBA - KLSX Section, along-with the proposed line for doubling, are being electrified for
train working. The Double line section will be fit for operation with diesel and electric
locomotives.

N OPERATIONS

The trains on Rajpura NABHA (NBA) (Incl.) - (CHHINTAWALA) CTW – KAULSERI


(KLSX) (Excl.) double line sections shall operate with diesel and electric tractions.

O INFRINGMENTS

There are no infringements to IRSOD for the New Line and to the Regulations for placing of
overhead and underground power lines crossing across the railway track.

P MEANS OF DEALING WITH ACCIDENTS

Adequate facilities for dealing with accidents are available in the Ambala Division of
Northern Railway and the same will be utilized for the new line also.

Q GANG FOR MAINTENANCE

Requirement of actual gang strength has been worked out and posts created accordingly by
Ambala Division of Northern Railway.

R GANG HUTS

No additional gang hut have been constructed.

S CREATION OF POSTS
Arrangement of required posts for the doubling between NABHA (Incl) –
CHHINTANWALA –KAULSERI (Excl) has been made. The details are available in the
book-let.
