For the Facilitator:
Welcome to the Empowerment Technologies Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on ICT
as Platform for Change.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from public
institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set
by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in
schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also need
to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage their own learning.
Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks
included in the module.
For the Learner:
Welcome to the Empowerment Technologies Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on ICT
as Platform for Change.
Today’s generation has been greatly reliant on the use of Information and Communications
Technology for relaying information throughout different devices and various sites. This includes
the use of mobile phones, telephones, radio stations, etc. Although there may be downsides
from being too dependent on this network, it is important to remember that a large network such
as ICT can have the power to bring together people from different backgrounds to work together
to achieve a common goal.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for guided and
independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to process the contents of
the learning resource while being an active learner.
What I Need to Know
The use of ICT can be traced back in history as a number of calamities and events arose. The
need for a way to interact with various people from various places led to utilization of what was
readily accessible to them. While the availability of ICT is extensive, it is also important to
remember that some people still do not have access to it, but this does not mean that they
should be excluded from the action for change.
For the learner
This topic aims to deliver the importance of using the various components of ICT as medium to
bring about change in the society and to hopefully inspire students to maximize their use of
technology by looking for ways to solve or ease the problems the world is facing today.
At the end of this module, you are expected to:
1. understand the importance of ICT as a platform for change;
2. understand the events that ICT helped realize; and
3. use prior ICT knowledge in planning a campaign using online resources.

ICT is used as a medium for advocacy. Advocacy is speaking up for others. It aims to speak up
for those who cannot speak for themselves or those who need their voices to be amplified.
These people are the most vulnerable in society, therefore, it is important to defend and uphold
their rights. It is also important to consider what they have to say when decisions that will affect
them greatly are being made.
