2. Review
Before we proceed to our lesson, what have you
observed with our activity? Does it related to
our topic last meeting? If yes, what have we
discussed last meeting
? Sir!
Yes Mr./Ms. _____. Sir, last meeting we discussed about how to
compute for the area of a given z-score and
vice versa using the five rules which we
answered correctly in our previous activity.
Very good! It feels great that you still
remember our last topic. It is important to
remember all these concepts as we tackle our
next lesson.
C. Motivation
Before we discuss our topic, let’s have this
activity titled ‘Rearrange to Arrange’. Are you
ready and excited class? Yes, sir.
Who wants to read the mechanics? Sir!
Yes, Mr./Ms.______. A song will be played, while the music is
playing, you must pass the ball to your
seatmate and if it stops, the student who holds
the ball will arrange the jumbled letters. There
are clues for every word.
Are we clear with the instructions? Yes sir!
Okay for number one.
Sir, score
Very good, the answer is SCORE.

MEAN
Sir Mean
The correct answer is MEAN. Very good!
D. Activity
Okay, that’s great. Let me present to you our
topic for today’s discussion. After knowing
how to compute for the area of a given z-score
and vice versa. Let’s discuss application of the
areas under a normal curve.
Do you have any idea about our topic? (Answers may vary.)
No worries my dear students. I got you!
For you to have an idea about our lesson, do
this activity titled “Connect the Broken
Message in Me”
Do you know this activity? Yes, sir!
Yes Mr./Ms. ___would you mind to tell the Open the envelope that contains the message
mechanics. you’re going to assem le to form the hidden
message. You work as one, it will help you to
your next journey.
Very good! Did you understand class? Yes, sir!
Okay go to your respective group last meeting
and do the activity. I’ll e giving you four (4)
minutes to assemble the puzzle. (Students will follow)
(Distribute an envelope that contains the
puzzle)
(Students will work together to assemble the
puzzle)
Okay time’s up!
Any volunteer group that will present their
output. Sir!
Yes Mr./Ms. ____group. Sir as we assembled the puzzle, we formed
the definition of z-score. It says here that a z-
score describes the position of a raw score in
terms of its distance from the mean when
measured in standard deviation units. The z –
score is positive if the value lies above the
mean and negative if it lies below the mean.
It is also known as a standard score, because
it allows comparison of scores on different
kinds of variables by standardizing the
distribution. A standard normal distribution is
a normally shaped distribution with a mean
of 0 and a standard deviation of 1.
Sir, we also noticed that there is an image of
a normal distribution behind the definition of
z score.
Outstanding! Did all groups assemble the Yes, sir!
puzzle correctly?
Very good! Give yourselves a Jaycel’s clap. (The students will follow) Chicken -chicken-

Did you understand the definition of a z-score Yes, sir!
class?
Okay that’s great! Now let’s proceed in
calculating the Z-score.
Now, to calculate for the z-score, you must
know the formula, right? Yes, sir!
You will know the formula if you do this
activity titled “Form-u-love”
Anyone would like to read the mechanics? Sir!
Yes____. Fill the missing parts of the formula by
answering five questions, answers are inside
the envelope, choose and paste your answer
on the hearts provided. Present your output to
the class.
Are we clear with that class? Yes, sir!
Okay very good, I’ll give you 4 seconds to
do the activity.
1.I am the inverse of addition.
2. I am the last letter in the alphabet. 3 1 4
3.I am the ONE in your past relationship.
4.You miss me, I miss ___.
5.I am the symbol for standard deviation = ----------------------------------------
under population. --

Forty-five seconds is over! Raise your
answers.
Okay the right formula is, any volunteer. Sir!
Yes, the group of _______. The formula for z-score is.
𝑥−𝜇
𝑧=
𝜎
where 𝑧 = z-score
𝑥 = raw score
𝜇 = mean
𝜎 = standard deviation
Did every group get the same formula? Yes sir!
Excellent! Any questions so far? None sir.
E. Analysis
Okay, let’s try these e amples. Lend your eyes
and ears to me so you can understand the
process.
1. Rocel’s final e amination results in
three subjects are as follows:
Subject Grade mean Standard
deviation
Advanced 92 81 5.75
Statistics
Basic 76 73 6
Calculus
Basic 91 93 6.5
Physics
On which test did Rocel perform well and
worst?
Okay let’s solve for the z-score in each
subject.
Sir, I know.
Again, what is the formula of z-score?
𝑥−𝜇
The formula of z-score is 𝑧 =
Yes, _____. 𝜎
Okay, very good!
Sir the raw score is 92, the mean is 81 and the
What is the value of our x, or the raw score,

the mean and standard deviation in her
advanced statistics?
Okay very good! Anyone would like to solve
for her Advanced Statistics, Basic Calculus
(Students raise their hands)
and Basic Physics?
Yes, kindly solve _____her Advanced
Statistics, _______will solve her Basic
(Students who were called will solve the
Calculus and _______, solve the z-score of
problem on the board, and the rest will solve
her Basic Physics. For those who are not
it on their own)
called, solve it on your own.
Advanced Statistics
𝑥 − 𝜇 92 − 81
𝑧= = = 1.91
𝜎 5.75
Basic Calculus
𝑥 − 𝜇 76 − 73
𝑧= = = 0.5
𝜎 6
Basic Physics
𝑥 − 𝜇 91 − 93
𝑧= = = −0.31
𝜎 6.5
Yes, sir!
Is their answer correct?
Now having the value of z-scores, what
subject did Rocel perform well and worst?
Anyone? Sir
Yes, ____. The z-score indicates the deviation of the
score from the mean in each distribution.
Thus, Rocel’s score in Advanced Statistics is
the highest among her three subjects. On the
other hand, her score in Basic Physics is the
lowest.
Okay, very good!
Any questions class? (Answers may vary)
F. Abstraction
Alright, let us dig more by answering the
problem.
Supposed there are 800 students who took the
Tugscie Entrance examination. The average or
mean score is 85 and the standard deviation is
9.
Find the percentage of students whose score
are:
1.From 85 to 95
2.From 60 t0 88
Okay, who wants to solve for number 1 on the
board? And for number 2? (Students raise their hands)
Okay for number 1, ____will solve and for (Students who were called will solve the
number 2, may we have______. problem on the board, and the rest will solve
Please explain your answer and solutions. it on their own)
(The student will solve and explain his/her
answer)
1.From 85 to 95
Solution:
𝑥 − 𝜇 95 − 85
𝑧= = = 1.11
𝜎 9
Since the z-score is 1.11, we can now
determine the value of 1.11 to our table, as
you can see 0.3665 or 36.65 %. Therefore,
36.65 % of examiners scored between 85 to
95.
Is he/she, correct? Yes sir!
Very good! Now let me ask, how many
students obtained scores between 85 to 95?
And how did you arrive with that answer.
Yes. _____ Sir. Let me answer.
There are 294 students who obtained scores
between 85 to 95, since there are 36.65 % of
the total population which is 800, we simply
multiply the percentage to the total
population.
Very good, there are 294 students.
Since we are talking with the number of
students, the answer must be a whole number.
Hence, we must always round up.
Okay, kindly explain you work ______.
(The student will explain his/her solution.)
2.From 60 t0 88
Solution:
𝑥 − 𝜇 60 − 85
𝑧= = = −2.78
𝜎 9
𝑥 − 𝜇 88 − 85
𝑧= = = 0.33
𝜎 9
Now having the value of our z score, now
let’s determine its corresponding value in our
table. The value of -2.78 is 0.49.73 or
49.73% while the value of 0.33 is 0.1293 or
12.93 %. To get the percentage of students
who obtained scores between 60 to 88 we
must add them.
49.73% +12.93% =62.66%. Therefore,
62.66% of the examiners got a score between
60 to 88.
Did ______ get the correct answer? Yes sir!
Excellent! Did you understand class? Yes sir!
Any questions? None sir!
Outstanding class! I hope you have learned
something today. I’m sure you are now ready
for our next activity.
