Climate Change Script:
Intro
We have a single mission: to protect and hand the planet to the next generation.
-François Hollande
I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is.
-Greta Thunberg
The environment is where we all meet; where all of us have a mutual interest; it is the one thing
all of us share.
-Lady Bird Johnson
Thousands of years ago, the Earth was as beautiful and clean as the paradise we all imagine. But
now, you can feel how much the Earth is struggling to contain all of us. Because of Human
Activities, the Earth’s temperature is rising, damaging the ecosystem. If we continue to live like
this, if we continue to damage our environment, will it still be there for future generations? Is
there a way to alter our destined downfall? Is there a way to save the Earth? To save the future
generation?
Cause and Effect
How did we arrive at this situation? Mainly, climate change was caused by us, humans. The
destruction of rainforests and the burning of fossil fuels are just two examples of human actions
that have an increasing impact on the climate and temperature of the Earth. This increases the
number of greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere, amplifying the greenhouse effect and
contributing to global warming. The consumption of coal, oil, and gas, which accounts for the
majority of greenhouse gas emissions, is what causes the most harm.
While accurately defining all of this as climate change, this does not provide the complete
picture of what is taking place. Since the climate has always changed, but never so quickly or in
the presence of infrastructure as inflexible and complicated as that found in the cities and
production systems of industrialized nations, we must start by discussing the climate crisis.
The effects of global warming are already being felt: since 1870, sea levels have been increasing
year by 3.3mm, and arctic sea ice has been melting at a rate of 12.85% each decade. The years
2009 through 2019 were the hottest on record, and the year 2020 came in second, slightly behind
the record-breaking year of 2016. Since 1990, extreme weather occurrences like cyclones and
floods have increased in frequency, occurring even at atypical times of the year and with
devastating levels of intensity. "Fire seasons" have also grown longer and more intense, like the
one in Australia in 2019. El Niño and other phenomena have become more unpredictable and
have led to dangerous droughts.
Simple ways to lessen the hazard of climate change
Climate change is starting to affect the earth in ways beyond our imagination. As temperatures
continue to rise across the globe, we are witnessing changes in precipitation patterns, unlike
anything we have seen before. And climate change is one of the most serious threats to life on
our planet. So here are the things that we can do to reduce the effect of climate change:
1. Invest in renewable energy
2. Switch to sustainable transport
3. Protect forest
4. Recycle
5. Plant a tree
6. Educate
7. Save water
8. Read
9. Vote
10. Spend your money wisely.
Conclusion
In this 5-minute video, we hope that you wake up from the thought that others can handle this
problem. Wake up. The Earth needs everyone to act on their own. Wake up, your help is needed.
Climate change has always been a problem needed to be solved. If you feel that you are not
affected, take a look at your surroundings, and at other people’s lives. Climate change has made
it harder for any living beings to survive as it has caused numerous tragedies in the past few
years: pollution, flash floods, rising oceans, depletion of resources, warming planet, forest fires,
and others.
Bear in your mind to always do something for our environment’s sake. It has been providing for
us since Day 1, it’s our turn to make sure that it will continue to provide for us until the end of
being. We have a single mission: to protect and hand the planet to the next generation. We are
the first generation to feel the sting of climate change, and we are the last generation that can do
something about it.
