A. Content Standards The learner recognizes that communicative competence requires


understanding of speech context, speech style, speech act, and
communicative strategy.

B. Performance Standards The learner demonstrates effective use of communicative


strategy in a variety of speech situations.

C. Learning At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

Introduction: Identify the functions of communication.

Motivation: Answer the checklist to familiarize yourself with the


different practices in communication.

Activity: Generate ideas about the types of speech context.

Analysis: Determine what are the types of speech context and


how they differ from each other.

Abstraction: Explain the importance and purpose of the types of


speech context.

Application: Demonstrate their behavior in different situations.

Evaluation: Differentiate the types of speech context.

a. ACTIVITY The class will be divided into four groups. Each group will be
assigned one type of communication. They need to gather ideas
about the topic assigned to them.

Group 1 – Communication with self

Group 2 – Communication between two persons

Group 3 – Communication in a small group

Group 4 – Communication to the public

Group 5- Mass Communication

Each group will present their work to the class.


b. ANALYSIS
Types of Speech Context

Intrapersonal Communication – internal process of


communicating with self.

Interpersonal Communication – an exchange of information


between two or more people.

Types of interpersonal communication:

● Dyadic – GROUP
● Group – Refers to communication that involves at least
three but not more than ten people engaging in a face-to-
face interaction working to achieve a desired goal.
● Public – Refers to communication that requires you to
deliver or send the messages before or in front of a group
● Mass – Refers to communication that takes place through
television, radio, newspaper, magazines, books,
billboards, internet, and other types of media.

c. ABSTRACTION The students will answer the following:

How do you differentiate intrapersonal and interpersonal


communication?

Do you think speech context affects your behavior in


communicating?

Why do you think we need to familiarize ourselves with the


different contexts of communication?

d. APPLICATION/
ASSESSMENT Task 1
Directions: Differentiate intrapersonal and interpersonal
communication. (5 pts.)
