Introductory Message
Welcome to Personal Development 11!
The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the
Schools Division of Iloilo City and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic
Education Curriculum.
The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to
guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using
the contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners
in acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity
and employment.
For learning facilitator:
The Personal Development 11 Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning
Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you
and learner. This will be made available to the learners with the references/links
to ease the independent learning.
For the learner:
The Personal Development 11 Activity Sheet is developed to help you
continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides
you with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an
active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on
the agreed schedule.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY SHEET
Knowing Oneself
I. Learning Competency
1. Explain that knowing oneself can make a person accept his/her strengths
and limitations and dealing with others better.
II. Background Information for Learners
Knowing yourself is a journey. It is about discovering who you are as a
human being – yes, the real you. The journey is unpredictable and engages you
deeply as it brings you face to face with your deepest fears, self-doubts,
vulnerabilities, and insecurities. On the contrary, to truly know yourself is the
most important skill you can ever possess. It will help you in your decision
making, appreciating other people, knowing your strengths and weaknesses,
and understanding yourself.
The Self, in contemporary literature and even common sense, is commonly
defined by the following characteristics: “separate, self-contained, independent,
consistent, unitary, and private” (Stevens, 1996). When we talk about the self,
being “separate,” it means it is distinct, different and unique from others. It has its
own uniqueness that defines him/her from others. It has an identity of its own,
even twins, may it be fraternal, is very much distinct from the other. When we are
talking about “self-contained,” we describe its existence as having its own
independence. It may exist with or without others; it is self-containing of its own
thoughts, characteristics and volition.
The activities found herein will help learners like you to know yourself better,
accept your strengths and limitations, and have better relationship with others.

Remember
The Self has several distinctive characteristics that separate from
other “selves.” It has its own experiences and emotions, which is very
different and unique in any other way.
Self-Concept is a combination of both our actual-self (present) and
ideal self (future self). It can also be our comparison to others, even our people
who have a direct and indirect influence. Our observation of ourselves and
others, the feedback from others, our historical or cultural perspective also
play important roles in shaping our self-concept.
Having self-knowledge in our aspects and historical beginnings also
provide essential information in shaping our actual self, which is very much
closer or far from our ideal self. In the process of merging our actual self and
ideal self, our social roles provide us the adjustment in the changing and
conflicting development of our society.
