MPT-HC/MPT-XP composition
As shown in Figure 5.156, the MPT-HC/MPT-XP assembly is made up of two boxes, one
for diplexer system (external diplexer) and the other for the all other active functions
(transceiver) connected together to form the MPT-HC/MPT-XP.
Note: This is a conductive O-RING and must be left dry. Do not wet it with silicon grease
(silicon grease must be used only on O-ring between MPT-HC/MPT-XP and antenna).
The transceiver box performs all the functions, but does not include the diplexer system.
The external diplexer provides the interface between the pole mounting/antenna and the
transceiver.
The favorite solution foresees the possibility to change in field a spare part transceiver
without disconnecting the external diplexer from the pole mounting/antenna. The
transceiver and external diplexer fixing and unfixing are obtained through the four levers.
Figure 5.236 below shows the transceiver and external diplexer coupling surfaces:
The transceiver and external diplexer can be coupled in two alternative ways (180°-rotated
with respect to each other):
• external diplexer (B) (HIGH FREQ) coupled to transceiver box’s (D) (TX)
in this case the TX part of the transceiver uses the HIGH frequency range of the Shifter
set by the WebEML (see field D in Figure 5.236); obviously the RX part of the
transceiver uses the corresponding LOW frequency range;
• external diplexer (C) (LOW FREQ) coupled to transceiver box’s (D) (TX)
in this case the TX part of the transceiver uses the LOW frequency range of the Shifter
set by the WebEML (see field D in Figure 5.236); obviously the RX part of the
transceiver uses the corresponding HIGH frequency range.
Note: There is only one possible way to couple the external diplexer and the transceiver
box: there is a mistake-proofing put by the factory on the transceiver box, whose position
depends on the type of transceiver (low or high band, as shown in Figure 5.236) to ensure
that the association with the external diplexer is always the right one.

Figure 5.159 — Label affixed on the MPT-HC/MPT-XP and MPT-HC/MPT-XP transceiver box
The MPT ODU is delivered from the factory in one box (without the external diplexer
attached). In addition, a conductive O-RING is supplied with each MPT ODU w/external
diplexer. The external diplexer is delivered in another box.
There are two mechanical solutions. One which uses a round shaped O-RING gasket, and
one that uses an O-RING gasket that has a spine on one side. See Figure 5.160 for an
illustration of the two gasket types.
Spine
For MPT ODUs with the round O-RING gasket: This O-RING can be installed without
regard to orientation. See Figure 5.161 for an example of the round O-RING.
For MPT ODUs with the spine gasket: This O-RING MUST be installed with the spine
facing outwards so it will make contact with the external diplexer. See Figure 5.162 for an
example of the spine O-RING.
The external diplexer must be installed onto the MPT ODU in the field.
Note: Before you install the external diplexer onto an MPT ODU, the corresponding MPT
ODU must be powered OFF. Power should not be applied until after installation of the MPT
ODU is complete.
Use the following procedure to install the external diplexer onto the MPT ODU:
1. Remove the solar shield by unscrewing the 3 captive screws. Save the solar shield for
use later in the installation.
4. Open the four locking hooks (B) arranged on the four corners of the external diplexer.
See Figure 5.232 for MPT-HC and Figure 5.233 for MPT-XP.
5. Position the external diplexer onto the MPT ODU. The MPT ODU is keyed to
guarantee proper orientation of the external diplexer to the MPT ODU. Orient the
external diplexer so the pin (mistake-proofing) on the MPT ODU aligns with the hole
on the external diplexer. See Figure 5.236. If the external diplexer requires more than
minimal force to seat onto the MPT ODU, verify the location of the pin and the hole
and rotate the external diplexer 180 degrees as required. Verify that the locking hooks
are not causing an interference. Then try to seat the external diplexer again.
6. Secure the external diplexer using the four hooks (B) onto the relative brackets on the
MPT ODU. Secure one corner hook first. Followed by the hook on the opposite corner
(180 degrees). Then secure a third hook and finally the fourth hook. Never secure the
hooks in a clock-wise or counter clock-wise sequence.
7. Visually inspect the MPT ODU and external diplexer junction and verify that the
external diplexer is fully seated on all four sides of the MPT ODU.
Note: The polarization must be changed to match the antenna polarization and the
coupler nose waveguide.
Warning: A waterproofness tape is glued on the waveguide of the MPT-HC and it must
never be removed.

These integrated antenna Pole Mounting kits are designed for quick mechanical
installation, and:
As shown in Figure 5.174, these integrated antenna Pole Mounting kits are supplied with
the frequency-specific nose adapter for mounting the frequency-specific MPT-HC/
MPT-XP transceiver or RF Coupler.
• in case of largest antennas, is supplied separately, and must be mounted on the antenna
during the installation procedure.
Figure 5.174 — Example of integrated antenna Pole Mounting (with antenna and nose
adapter)
The 2 already installed “MELODY” or “AWY” ODU can be replaced with two MPT-HC
after having removed the pre-cut part of the solar-shield which faces the pole.
Figure 5.175 — Pre-cut part to be removed with a cutter in case of 1+1 configuration
These kits are frequency independent, and provide only the mechanical support function.
The frequency specialization is obtained mounting the frequency-specific nose adapter.
Figure 5.176 — "Pole Mounting for Remote ODU" Installation kit (3DB10137AAXX)
In case of:
• integrated antenna configurations, the nose adapter is delivered inside the chosen
antenna kit; in this case the RF interface is used to attach the frequency-specific
MPT-HC/MPT-XP transceiver or RF Coupler.
• Non Integrated Antenna configurations, the nose adapter is used to attach:
• at one side, the frequency-specific MPT-HC/MPT-XP transceiver or RF Coupler
• at the other side, to attach the Flextwist cable toward the antenna.
In these Non Integrated Antenna configurations, the nose adapter is delivered as individual
item, and must be always mounted on the ODU or Coupler, during the installation
procedure.

MPT-HC/MPT-XP with external diplexer).
2. Install the Antenna and Pole Mounting.
This pole mounting is delivered as “pole mounting”, “antenna”, and frequency-specific
“nose adapter” already assembled. The integrated antenna is mounted on the pole front.
Antenna and pole mounting must be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions.

Coupler installation
11-38 GHz
1. Install the Antenna and Pole Mounting.

mechanical/electrical adjustment. Every mechanical “STEP” is a 30° adjustment.
Figure 5.186 — Coupler Polarization Change (11-38 GHz) - 1st Step and 2nd step
The final result must be as shown in Figure 5.189 (example for V polarization): the
engraved polarization symbols (H or V) must coincide with the reference blind hole.
Change Polarization Procedure
1. 1st Step = internal 30° rotate

the manufacturer's installation instructions. If grease for O-ring is not mentioned, it must
be avoided

OMT installation
The OMT can be installed on RFS xMPT integrated antennas only (1 to 6 ft).
Note: Former AWY antennas can be upgraded to receive OMT. The upgrade kits include
assembling instructions.
Each OMT is provided (inside the packaging) with the antenna interface specific to the
frequency and with the detailed installation instructions.
• On SB-xMPT and SC-xMPT antennas, it is necessary first to remove the radio interface
needed in single polarization configuration only.
• Remove the existing radio interface and feeder
• Detach the feeder and feeder plate.
6, 7, 8, 10/11 GHz
1. Assemble the feeder and the feeder plate on the OMT antenna interface.
2. Insert the assembly in the antenna and screw it. Add the fine tuning screw with nylon
spacer and washer plus the special HEX spacer.
