Fundamentals

Color

Typography

Spacing

Sizing

Imagery

Common patterns

--> elements, u can use to design a web page

Headers

Hero areas

Buttons

Image galleries

Contact forms, etc.

UX Design: information arquitecture, user psychology, usability testing, content strategy, wireframes,
interaction design, etc.

UI Design: color, typography, spacing, sizing, shape, etc.

Project Brief

-->The wireframe will be based on it. The more detailed, the better

*For who? Who is? Their Background

*logo

*website structure, purpose of each page

*what we need in the header? In the footer?

*website content, what each page section will need and have?

*design guidelines, what kind of design? Colors?

The Wireframe

Sketch, content and its structure (no color, font regard now. In UX perspective, what UI should dress?)

-->there’re a lot of apps to use for wireframe

The UI

-->apps to work with Figma*, Sketch**, adobe Xd?

Color theory
*Color psychology

*Color harmony (pick up a color and use in

color.adobe.com

mycolor.space

colorhunt.co

color.muz.li*

webgradients.com

dribble.com*

Create a color palette for the project

*create the primary color, the secondary color and the gradient and more

*don’t use pure black for fonts, use with gray or the palette colors

*create variations styles for black

*create contextual colors for errors, error messages

*use color contrast checker for each interactive element (the color, with a background color)

Typography
Where to get fonts? -->google fonts*, adobe fonts

What style of font would get the brand message acrossed and is good for the audience?

*Serif -->luxurious

*Sans-serif -->modern and trust

*readability (in different sizes)

*loading time (the less fonts the better)

Attributes (size, weight, line height, letter space …)

*type scale* or archetype (google this)

*font-size: 21, line height: 30,

Roles (this font is for what elements? headers?)

*Single Typeface - All the elements’ll be using fonts from that family

More readable fonts use for small elements (body texts, buttons, menus, captions), and less for bigger
ones (headings)

You can google, font combinations, in case you wanna more than one font

Create text style for the defined paragraph, headers and more.
Spacing and Sizing tween Elements
How much space we should use inside and outside an element, and how big or small an element’d be

8pt system (every margin, padding, width is multiple of 8)

Grid -->for sizing and aligning content. Instead u can use rulers.

Using Icons and Imagery in Web Design

Icons -->should convey what its text conveys. Brand icons stay well alone

*use consistent icon, all outline or all solid and not mixing

*tools: bootstrap icons, font awesome*, heroicons, ionicons*, forge icons*, envatoelements

*iconset.io -->free app to collect various downloaded icons

Images -->it’s better real company’s photos and not stuck photos. Keep it real.

All the theory basis

Patterns:
Header
Top section of a webpage, contains logo, navigation menu, a call-to-action and optionally a search
form.

Hero
Is the area below header. It stays above the fold, so it displays critical info like the brand offering,
benefits to working with the brand, and a call-to-action.
Button
Is a fundamental interactive element, serves as middleman between the user and the service or product

*must look clickable and easy to find

*set the button styles for, default state, hover, active and disabled.

Image Gallery
Is a way of showing a collection of images, while allowing users to see several items at once.

*to see products at different angles

*can be linked to slideshow, to display larger versions of an image

Footer
Is an area positioned at the bottom of every page on a website, right below the main content. Also good
to place call-to-action, copy write text, contents like site map, external links and some more.

Testimonials
Nice things your clients talk about you. To establish credibility.

Tabs
UI element where content is separated into different panels, with only one panel visible at a time. The
hidden panels can be accessed by user interaction. Are used to display large amount of content in
relatively small area.

Accordions
Almost like tabs, but can display multiple panels at once n are used for simpler content, like text.

Often used in FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Contact forms
A way to clients can contact you.

*keep your contact forms simple (name, email address and the message).

*save certain fields as styles, like default field, error, hover/focus, active, disabled

Patterns
Responsive web Design
Layout changes for tablets and phones
Laptop/Big screen range: 1800px - 1200px

Tablet range: 1200px – 600px,

Phone range: < 600px

Responsiveness

Prototyping
Interactive mockup, of the design, but is not the final version of the design. To better see the
functionality and the users’ journey.

Allows u to link between screens, and demonstrates how the website will behave right before the actual
development has started.
