After going through this module, students are

TRIVIA: The word "Filipinas"
first appeared in the first
Philippine coins, from 1861
to 1868, during the Spanish
rule. The denominations are
1, 2, and 4 pesos. They
were gold and silver coins.
Let's Develop:
Coin Toss Experiment
Toss a coin three times
and observe how many
times the tails will occur.
Record the results.
How did you obtain the results?
In the activity, you observed how many
times the tails will occur. The number
of times the tails occured is called the
Random Variable X.
A Random Variable is a variable that
assumes numerical values associated
with the random outcomes of an
experiment, where one (and only one)
numerical value is assigned to each
sample point.
Two Types of
Random Variables
Discrete Random Variable
is a quantitative random variable that
can assume a countable number of
outcomes. Hence a random variable is
discrete if its possible values are
counting numbers.
Continuous Random Variable
is a quantitative random variable that can
assume an uncountable number of values.
If a random variable will take on values
with an interval or continuous scale,
then it is a continuous random variable.
