Preface
The passion we had to apply what we had
learned and our interest to make a model
which involves science and computer
work drove us to make the model.
Working on this model for four weeks
gave us a huge knowledge of science
involved and of its history. And we want
others as well to know how a glider works,
the procedure we followed and all our
experiences through this report.

A huge thank you to:
Our professor Amit Dutta for giving us
such innovative projects, for making us
to realise the importance of team work
and also for guiding us till the end.
Our prestigious institution, for giving
such opportunities.
DIY committee for teaching computer
works like FREECAD, CURA and
ARDUINO.

1.Motivation:
Our interest in exploring the areas of
aerodynamic physics and applying it,
along with the knowledge of mechanics
in making the glider.
Exploring the history of gliders and
trying to understand the technology
involved in the evolution of gliders.
And our interest in team work is quite
enough to make this project done.
2.Objective:
1.Formulation and distribution of work.
2.Studying the history of gliders.
3.Understanding the science involved.
4.Completing the hardware model of
glider
3.Material Used
1. Wood
2. Plastic
3. Cardboard
4. Rubber Band
5. Hook
6. Glue
4.Work Done:
4.1 Cad Model
Body: To make the body 3 cubes are
used which then converted into the
required measurements.
Propeller: To make the propeller a
sketch is drawn for the middle cylinder
and pad feature is used to give a
required thickness its edges are
chamfered. To make the blade, a
dantum plane at an angle 4 degree is
created and a sketch is drawn, padded
and its edges are chamfered to make the
blade and next the polar patten feature
is used to copy paste one blade on the
other side
Wing: A sketch with required
measurements is drawn and pad option
is used.
Tail: To make the tail wing a sketch
with required measurements is and
padded.
Tail Wing: sketch is drawn and next it
is padded.
To join all these three cylinders are
used, one to join propeller and body
and remaining two to join wing and the
body.
4.2 Hardware Model:
The main body is made with wood. The
wings and stabilizer are made with
cardboard and a wood support is given
to the wings. Propeller is made with
plastic and it is attached to the body
with the help of a metal hook on and a
rubber band is attached to the hook and
the main body. All these parts are
joined with glue.

5.Problem Statement:
Preparing the cad model of the glider
was time consuming, as we were not
familiar with all the features of the
FREECAD. Like, we never used dantum
plane feature and polar pattern it
created a bit trouble in the beginning.
Flying the glider was also a bit tough
task. As the material chosen and
measurement taken required a lot of
attention. We had to find the correct
mix of wood and cardboard to
minimize the weight. These things were
not sufficient for flying the glider a
little work on shaping the different
parts of the glider and strengthening the
wing and stabilizer also required.
6.Summary:
This project helped us in practical
understanding of glider. And also
enabled us to apply what we had
learned in aerodynamic physics.
Working in a team was really great as
it involves various ideas of team
members on a single issue. By the end
of this project, we have gained enough
knowledge of the history and
technological development involved.
