Part 1: Directions: Identify the level of moral dilemma reflected in each scenario. Justify
your answer.
1. Mercy Killing – Organizational Moral Dilemma because
of this it is not just the doctor's own decision if he equates
the person with the sick and there is no cure for that
disease he will ask for help from the hospital organization
and the patient's family side will ask about the mercy killing
that will happen
2. Live-in Relationship – Individual Moral Dilemma here is
the person's own decision if he will allow you to be together
even if you are not married, you will decide if it will
be good or bad for both
of you.
3. Padrino System – Organizational Moral Dilemma here the
party organizations decide whether to help that
person in the campaign that always gives us money in favor if
we notice we are asking for help from our colleagues in
deciding whether to help or not.
4. Political Dynasty – Structural Moral Dilemma Because it’s
up to the people to decide who will lead the government,
many people will decide whether there will be a
so -called Political Dynasty in a country happens.
5. Corrupt Politician Helping the Poor - Structural Moral Dilemma this in turn decides the institutio
organizations of the whole country
that if what the community
politician is doing wrong or right but everywhere you look it’s
wrong because it is against or violates the ethical standards
of individuals.
Part 2: Using the principles of moral decision-making, answer the following items.
1. A day before the wedding of your friend, you discovered that your friend’s
spouse to-be is having an affair with an officemate. You caught them sneaking
out of a hotel together. What will you do? Explain your answer.
What I will do is tell my friend's future wife that she had an affair with her
officemate and it would be better for the two of them to talk first about whether they will
continue or not in the marriage because if they have a problem with each other they
may not they will have a good life as a couple. I will also talk to my friend if possible, he
will just admit his guilt because he also did it because this is the only way for everything
to be fine and have a good future their relationship. If I don't tell my friend's future wife
what she did wrong, it's like I'm condoning my friend's mistakes and it may result in
even bigger problems in the future.
2. Your family is vacationing in a private resort. Your son and nephew, both aged
12, are very excited to swim but there is still no lifeguard around. You warn them
to wait until the lifeguard arrives but they disobey you and rush into the water
unsupervised. Suddenly, you hear them screaming for help and see them both
drowning. At that time, you are the only swimmer who can save them, but you
can only save one at a time. Your nephew does not know how to swim and will
likely not survive if not rescued as soon as possible. Your son is a better
swimmer, but only has a 50 percent chance of holding on long enough for you to
rescue him. Who will you choose to save first? Why
First of all, they are my blood relatives, I have almost the same relationship with
them, for me what I will do is I will give priority to my nephew because he is not
completely or totally good at swimming and he is likely to be the first to drown in the
water unlike my son who is good but there is only a 50 percent chance that survive. I
will use that opportunity to rescue and prioritize my nephew and then my son I will make
sure I take the time to rescue them both. I can't put my personal welfare and save my
child first because even though I know I have a chance to save them both.
3. You are an eyewitness to a robbery. A man robbed a rich woman for him to pay
for his son’s crucial operation. You know who committed the crime. If you go to
the police to report the crime, there is the strong possibility that the money will
be returned to the rich woman. What will you do? Will you report the crime and
tell the truth to the police or say nothing since the money will be used for the
operation and the son will be saved? Justify your answer.
I won't admit or say that I saw who stole because the man needs more to be
used in her son’s operation even if I lie it's ok because what he did is meaningful and it
won't be used for bad things but it will be used to cure her. Even if it's wrong or against
people's moral standards, I'd rather keep quiet and keep it a secret because he's a rich
man who stole it, they can easily return the money in a short time unlike a father who
wants to save his son from a serious illness. We know that even if it's wrong to keep a
robbery a secret, you can't deny that the father needs more money for operations, so
he's was able to steal rich business woman.
