A tsunami is a large ocean wave caused by sudden movement under the sea, usually from earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. Over 80% of tsunamis are caused by earthquakes. The largest tsunamis in recent history include the 2004 Sumatra earthquake tsunami, the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and the 2010 Chile earthquake tsunami. A tsunami is a catastrophic ocean wave.
