ESSENTIAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE: Plan a process and sequence / chronological types of text
YOUR LESSON FOR TODAY:
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
✔ Plan a process and sequence / chronological types of text
✔ Describe a process and sequence / chronological types of text
Sequence or chronological type of academic text is a type of text that describes how subject of
discussions are organized according to the order of the time. Chronological is derived from the word
“chronos” which means time. This type of text uses point-to-point text structure to convey more vivid
and clear information.
Steps are specifically enumerated in a manner that the reader can easily follow for a desirable
result Like for instance in the procedural steps of research which starts from identifying the area of
interest of the researcher. There can be no conclusion without doing the process. To obtain best
conclusion, procedural methods are applied. Similarly, to bake a cake, the recipe which enumerates the
steps serves as the guide that not following the instructions would lead to a fluffy cake. In any attempt to
repair the paint of the car, sequential procedure is also followed. The car painter cannot just paint the
damaged car without removing the old paint, scrape, polish, and re-paint. An attempt for innovative
product, careful step-by-step procedures are religiously and carefully followed too. Otherwise, there
might be another product to be produced and not the one as planned. In the construction of the edifice,
rocks and solid materials should be laid down first before installing the roof. These are just examples of
the importance of the sequence – chronological text.
Ordinal numbers are used such as first, second, third, etc. In addition to this, some transitional
devices are also popularly used like: next, then, followed by, after, initially, and finally.
