Defects along with their images.
Defect A – Cracks in interior walls Defect A – Cracks in corridor walls
Defect B – Exposed reinforcement in slab Defect B – Exposed reinforcement in beam
Defect C – Deflection in slab
Defect D – Dampness and flaking of whitewash Defect D – Dampness and formation of mould
Defect E – Honeycombing in slab Defect E – Honeycombing in beam
Defect F – Seepage of water through slab Defect I – Gap between beam and wall
Defect G – Thick plaster on column Defect G – Thick plaster on shear wall
Defect J – Improper cover in slab Defect J – Improper cover in beam
Defect K – Efflorescence on walls
Suggestions
Defect A - Cleaning the cracks and filling it with Fibre-reinforced polymers. Flooring at top floor to
reduce the effect of contraction-expansion.
Defect B - Remove the loose concrete particles, grout the surface with non-shrink epoxy grout.
Defect D, F - Coating of wall with penetration sealers.
Defect E - Grout the surface with non-shrink epoxy grout.
Defect H – Welding at the joints of steel used.
Defect I – Using a richer mortar along with plastic mesh at junction of wall with beams and
columns.
Defect J - Making a new thicker and denser plaster layer near the impacted area, which will increase
the cover.
Defect K - Waterproofing chemicals with cement and apply to the affected areas.
