Introduction

It’s that time again! Every year we come to the time set aside for the science fair, and this
nifty guide was created to help you through the entire process. But first, why do a science
fair project? Science fair projects help to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and
research. Not only that, but it is also interdisciplinary. This means that you do a little bit of
every core subject when you complete a science fair project. Your written portions consist
of English Language concepts. Your charts and graphs consist of mathematical concepts.
Your research of the scientists who may have worked on something similar to your project
consists of social studies/history concepts. There is so much to gain from working through
and completing a science fair project!

accordingly)

*Students will be working with their English teacher on proper formatting for both the
abstract and the introduction to the project. These two components will be for a grade in Page 3 of 16
both English and Science.

What is Scientific Method?

 Link it with the any of Science Categories i.e.

o Is it related to Life sciences concepts?
o Is it related to Physical Sciences concepts?
o Is it related to Earth Sciences concepts?

Example 1:

Science Category is: Natural and Physical science

Science Experiment: How increase of Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere can lead to ocean acidification?

Link:

Grade 6 Science topic Mixtures and water resources: Water pollution: This can be linked with exactly how human
activities through the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation can lead to an increase in CO2 , therefore, turning
the water more acidic.

For Grade 9 Chemistry topic: Distinguish between acids and bases and explains what pH is?

 Example 2:

Science Category is: Earth science

Create a wood, metal, plastic, and cardboard area for upcycling in your school. These materials could then form
the basis of your STEM & science projects. e.g.

Investigate the properties of plastics and then find solutions to problems caused by plastic waste in your city. Or

Experiment with Composting and Learn About Food Waste. Or How to make your own paper from paper waste?
