GIV CPDLC Latency Issue Update

The document summarizes a service information letter from Honeywell identifying a controller-pilot data link communication latency timer issue affecting certain Gulfstream IV aircraft installations. The issue means those aircraft do not fully meet standards for future air navigation system CPDLC operations. Gulfstream and Honeywell are evaluating the issue and will provide further communication when appropriate actions have been identified. Operators should view an online presentation about the issue and limitations may apply to affected aircraft.

MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS LETTER

February 27, 2018

GIV-MOL-18-0006

FLIGHT CREW OPERATIONAL INFORMATION

TO: All Gulfstream IV Operators
Subject: Communication (ATA 23) – Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication Latency Timer Issue
On February 23, 2018, Honeywell released the attached Service Information Letter (SIL) D201802000051.
The SIL assists operators in determining the capabilities of Honeywell-installed avionics and communicates
a Controller-Pilot Data Link Communication (CPDLC) latency monitor issue that affects certain
installations. The SIL identifies affected aircraft that do not meet the Required Communications
Performance (RCP) requirements for Future Air Navigation System (FANS) 1A+ CPDLC operations.
Investigation into this condition revealed the CPDLC system installed on GIV aircraft equipped with
Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) ST04036AT-D, do not fully meet the standards of RTCA DO-258A,
AC 90-117 and AC 20-140B. As a result, the associated STC Airplane Flight Manual Supplement (AFMS),
CE41 406M001, is incorrect in stating the airplane is approved for FANS 1/A+ operation. To address this
condition, the STC AFMS will be revised at the next opportunity to correct the information.
Operationally, affected aircraft will be subject to the limitations set forth in NAT OPS BULLETIN
2018_001. Operators are encouraged to view the A056 Application Presentation, which is located in the
Waypoints section on MyGulfstream.com. The presentation can be accessed by selecting the
Communications tab located on the top of the Homepage, the Flight Ops - Waypoints selection and then the
applicable aircraft selection.

This Maintenance and Operations Letter (MOL) highlights the CPDLC latency issue and ensures operators
have a copy of the Honeywell SIL for their records. Gulfstream and Honeywell are evaluating this issue and
are working to address the condition. Further communications will be provided when the appropriate actions
have been identified.
If you have questions or comments regarding this communication, please contact Gulfstream Customer
Support at 800-810-GULF (4853), +1 912-965-4178, or by email at [email protected].
Sincerely,
