1. Background information: 1.1. Project Background:
As per (Wideman, n.d.), with the initiation and pushing by John Carpenter, the son of company founder, the company has moved into subcontract work supplying millwork to the construction industry. To take the advantage of the mini-booming in commercial construction in south-western BC in 1989, Bruce Sharpe, the VP Sales and Estimating, persuaded Woody's directors that they were well placed to expand their manufacturing business (Wideman, n.d.). Bruce idea was strengthened by two initiatives: The claim/advice by Miles Faster, the VP Production, that Woody`s Company needed to completely move to new and more modern facilities as production efficiency was being thwarted by lack of manufacturing space (Wideman, n.d.). The vision by John of growth based on computer controlled automation (Wideman, n.d.). As per (Wideman, n.d.), several concerns have faced the idea of moving to totally new place raised by Woodys management as follows: There was spare land on current company property; Cost /losses associated with buying and selling property; Interruption to production while relocating the existing equipment.
1.2. Business Goals and Objectives:
1.2.1 The main project objective is to increase Production Capacity to take advantage of the above mentioned (Business opportunity);
1.2.2 To enhance production efficiency and upgrade production process by integrating computer controlled automation system in order to (decrease cost and increase quality of current production);
1.3. Project Goals and Objectives (Deliverables):
1.3.1 1.3.2 1.3.3 Additional production area of 25% of the existing production floor area with all required production equipments (within the same existing property); Semi-automatic woodworking production train; Enhancement and Renovation of existing company facility as follows: 1.3.3.1 Installing Air-Conditioning system;
1.3.3.2 Dust-free paint and finishing shop; 1.3.3.3 Additional compressor capacity; 1.3.3.4 Renovation of President and Vice President Offices.
