Speaking Part 1

The student prefers backpacks as their bag of choice due to their capacity and comfort. When buying a bag, they consider price and quality since they are a student on a budget. They enjoy indoor activities and prefer staying home on rainy days where they can watch movies, read, or do crafts. The heaviest rain they remember caused widespread flooding in their neighborhood.

1. Do you like bags?

To be honest, this fashion item is my cup of tea. But I’m a student, I don’t
have much money to spend. I just use a backpack when I go to school or
when I go shopping, I will bring a tote to carry what I need. Maybe in the
future, when I’m able to earn money, I will spend more time to know more
about this item and go for well-known brands.
2. What type of bags do you like?
As I’m a student, my first choice is always a backpack. Because it can
contain a lot of heavy stuff, book, and school supplies. Backpacks are the
ideal bag that gives the most extreme security to my belongings inside
them. For example, a waterproof backpack can protect my crucial papers
from getting wet. Also, these types of bags are designed to distribute weight
evenly across the back and shoulders, which makes them more comfortable
to wear for long periods of time.
3. Do you usually carry a bag when you go out?
Yes, because I’m an absent-minded person, I always carry a bag when I go
out to make sure that I can stay organized and prepared for different
situation. If I have to go to school all day, I will bring ….. what I need
throughout the day.
4. When you are buying a bag, what factors do you consider?
Because I’m a student, I don’t have much money so I have to make sure
that this item is pocket-friendly so that I can save money for other
occasions. Besides, I also care about the quality of the bag, I want it to
have a long life span and also the capacity of the bag inside, it should be
able to carry a lot of stuff.
5. What’s your favourite wild animal?
Dolphins as the friendliest residents of the seas. The playful aquatic
mammals also rank among the smartest species. They often help people and
also symbolize solidarity, intelligence and even luck. These days,
trained dolphins are also a huge help to the military, where they work as
divers.
6. Have you ever seen wild animals?
I were born and grew up in concrete jungle. I only see home pets, stray cats
and dogs around. I have little chance to see wild animals other than
watching them on the TV. Maybe in the future, I will spend time travelling
to mountainous areas in order to have first-hand experience with wild life.
7. Do you like watching animals in the zoo?
When I was a child, I really like going to the zoo and watch animals in
cages. I could fed them some snacks. But when I get older, I feel sorry
seeing they lose their freedom, being in captivity. I think that government
should invest more in expanding conversational park and safari so that
these wild animals can keep their natural behavior and also be protected
from poaching, or illegal hunting.
8. Do you prefer rainy days or sunny days?
Oh, actually, I’m a homebody, I like to stay at home and enjoy indoor
activities so the weather doesn’t affect me too much. Sometimes I like the
rain, especially on hot days, it makes me feel more relaxed and
comfortable.
9. What do you do on rainy days?
As I have said before, the rain make me feel relaxed and comfortable.
When it starts to rain, I will stay at home, watch my favourite movie and
catch up on my unfinished reading. Sometimes I draw or make some crafts,
I can spend the whole day tuning up my creative abilities.
10.What do you usually do when it starts to rain and you are outside?
I will check my backpack to see whether or not I have any rainwear or
umbrella. If not, I will run as fast as I can to the nearest shelter, a café for
example, to have a cup of hot tea or coffee, and wait until the rain stops. If I
bring my phone with me, I will call my parents to pick me up.
11.Do you think rain is good?
Yes, definitely. Rain helps cool off hot days and water plants, trees and
farmers’ crops naturally. It would be terrible if there was no rain for a long
time. But too much rain can be a disadvantage as it can cause floods and
bring inconvenience to people’s lives.
12.How does rain affect life in your country?
Viet Nam still mainly depends on agriculture, so rain is really needed for
crop cultivation. The right amount of rain can lead to an increase in crop
yields and bring profits to farmers. However, as I have said before, if it rains
too much and leads to flooding, a lot of human activities will be affected.
13.Does rain ever affect transportation in your hometown? (How?)
Yeah, for sure. As a matter of fact, rain often causes severe
traffic congestion, especially when there is a heavy downpour. People
should expect to be stuck for hours in a traffic jam. I’m not exactly sure
why, but it’s possibly because vehicles tend to move slower in the rain.
14.Does it rain much in your country? (Where? When?)
As it is entirely located in the tropical belt, it receives quite a great amount
of precipitation every year. However, the part that records the highest rainfall is the
northern part. This region can also be affected by the typhoon season in the
Western Pacific, which can see severe storms lashing the coast from August to
November.
15.Is there any part of your country where it doesn’t rain much? (Where?)
In general, I guess the driest place might possibly be X, which is situated on the
south-central coast. The weather there is quite extreme with a lot of wind as well as
a hot and dry atmosphere during the year. Also, there is no winter here, and the
average temperature is considerably higher than in most other parts of the country.
16.Does it rain much in your hometown? Can you remember any time
when it rained particularly heavily? (When?)
Yes, of course. I suppose it was about a year or so ago, when we had several days
of torrential rain, almost non-stop, and so the whole of my neighbourhood got
flooded. You know, the water was, like, up to my knees, and so the traffic came to
a complete standstill. So, yeah, that was probably the worst time I can remember.
17.Have you ever had to change your plans because of the rain?
I vividly remember a time when my friend and I had planned to go to a
library to study. I thought I would wait for sometime for the rain to slow
down but it started raining cats and dogs, I could not go anywhere. It took a
long time for the rain to stop so I had to reschedule my library appointment
to another day. So that day, instead of going to the library, I stayed at home,
watched my favorite movie and had a snack.
18.Would you like to be a teacher?
As I’m not a patient person and I’m very introverted, I don’t like the feeling
of standing in front of a crowd trying to attract their attention. Therefore, I
think teaching is not for me.
19.Did you have a favourite teacher?
I really like my 10th grade math teacher. He is a humorous person, his
lessons are always filled with fun and positivity. His way of teaching also
makes me absorb knowledge effectively. Now, for some reason he cannot
teach my class anymore, I am still very grateful for what he has done for our
class.
20.Is it difficult for you to stay focused on something?

I’m easily distracted by noises. I need a very silent ambitious to stay

focused. At that time, I can work efficiently and easily come up with new
ideas. It is hard to concentrate and once being distracted, I cannot bring
back the flow of ideas.

21.What do you do to improve concentration?

Since I'm an absent-minded person, I always create a to-do list before I start
studying. By that way, I know what I have to do, which exercise should be
done first, which is more difficult and I can focus on that work.
22.Are friends important to you?
Friends are indispensable. If there are sensitive issues that I can't talk to my
parents or teachers about, my friends are the ones who are willing to listen
and give me useful advice or help me get rid of negative emotions. I don't
know what our life would be like if we don't have friends anymore.
23.What do you and your friends do together?
Well, we are students, we are always busy with tests and exams. We often
go to the library to study together, help each other with homework, and talk
to each other about things that we can't talk to adults about.
24.Do you have many friends?
Well, as I have said before, I’m always busy with homework and preparing
for tests and exams. Instead of spending time to keep in touch with those
weak ties, I prefer spending my time maintaining a good friendship.
Therefore, I only have a handful of friends who share the same interests as
mine and value these traits.
25.What kind of people do you like to have as friends?
I find myself attracted to people who are honest and know how to behave
with others. In my way of thinking, not only could friends make my lives
more interesting, but they also help me develop a sense of sharing whether
they are tangible things or just motivational words of wisdom, especially
when I have difficult moments in life. That’s why I always avoid making
friends with people who complain so much about their lives and being
negative or pessimistic.
26.Do your friends think you are a good friend?
I believe that I'm a good friend. Although I am not good at expressing my
feelings, I am always ready to be with my friends when they are in trouble,
to listen and give helpful advice to help them get rid of negative emotions.
And above all, I always treat everyone with a sincerity.
27.Do you prefer to spend time with friends or alone?
Normally, I like to be alone and enjoy relaxing in a quiet space, doing things
that make me happy. Being alone makes me feel more comfortable to focus
more on my work. However, I will still spend time hanging out with friends
to experience new things with them, creating unforgettable memories.
28.What foreign languages have you studied?
According to Viet Nam’s curriculum, I learn English as a second language
besides my mother tongue. However, when life is gradually integrating with
the international market, I realize the importance of knowing many foreign
languages and I am planning to learn some other foreign languages such as
Chinese, Korean, etc. after graduating from high school and going to
university.
29.Why did you choose to study that language?
As I have said before, English is a compulsory subject in the curriculum and
it is also the most popular language today. Not only English, being fluent in
any foreign language will be a strength to increase opportunities of finding a
job with better conditions in the international market. In addition, knowing
multiple languages also helps the brain process information more quickly
and efficiently.
30.How did you learn that language?
Because I don't have the opportunity to interact with native speakers, my
most popular way of learning is self-study through YouTube videos, creating
flashcards on new word learning apps and combining them with classroom
learning.
31.How long have you been learning that language?
As I have said before, English is a compulsory subject in the curriculum so I
have studied this languege since I started going to primary school, about 12
years. I also know that there are many international schools now teaching
English and some other foreign languages to children since kindergarten.
Maybe in the future, not only English but also other languages will be taught
more commonly.
32.Would you say it’s a difficult to learn?
For me, no language is easy to learn, but no language is too difficult to learn.
If you want to learn a language fluently, you need also a bit of patience. It’s
not possible to learn a language within 2 months, but it’s definitely possible
to make a visible improvement in 2 months. As long as we are persistent and
determined, we will achieve the results we want.
33.Do you like ice-cream?
I have a sweet tooth so ice cream is one of my favorite foods. However I
can't eat much ice cream because they contain a lot of sugar and fat, which
can lead to diseases like tooth decay, heart disease, diabetes. Even though I
like to eat sweets, I usually limit my intake of them.
34.What is your favourite flavor of ice cream?
My favorite ice cream flavor is green tea, I like all green tea flavored food
because i find it very fragrant. My sister is the complete opposite, she
doesn't like the taste of green tea because she thinks it is bitter. She finds it
hard to understand how I can eat green tea-flavored sweets so appetizingly.
35.Can you fix things?
To be honest, I'm not good at fixing things. Instead of fixing it yourself and
making it worse, I rely on professionals who have the necessary skills and
knowledge to handle repairs efficiently. I prefer spending time on my
interests.
36.What’s your favourite day of the week?
Actually, every day of the week is the same for me. I have to wake up early
every day and go to school, even on weekends. If I really had to say my
favorite day of the week, it's probably the day when I don't have to go to
school or take extra lessons, and don't have homework.
37.What do you usually do at this time of day?
This also depends on the situation. If I had to take extra lessons that day,
then I'm still in my classroom right now. If I was at home that day, I might
be taking a shower or doing my homework. If it’s winter, my family might
be eating dinner.
38.What do you do on weekends?
Weekends to me are like weekdays. Instead of going to school, I go to extra
classes and do homework. If I don't need to go to extra classes, I can wake
up later, relax after a tiring and stressful week of studying and prepare for a
new week full of energy.
39.Do you think you are an ambitious person?
No, I wouldn’t say that I’m particularly ambitious. I may set big goals for
myself, but I am aware of my abilities and I know what I need to do to
achieve my goals. I will not force myself to do things that I do not like or
that are beyond my ability. For me, it’s more about finding a balance
between achieving my goals and enjoying the journey along the way.
40.What kind of exercises do you do?
I'm a student, I'm always busy with my studies and exams so I don't have
time to exercise. Maybe in the future, when I have more free time, I will pay
attention to work out to improve my health or experience the sports I like.
41.What was your dream when you were a child?
My mother cooks very well and she also taught me to cook like her. My
biggest dream was to open a restaurant, I also want to open a sweet shop. I
have always been attracted to delicious food. I want to let people eat what I
cook and enjoy the feeling of receiving praise as an accomplishment.
42.What do you do when you have days off?
I will stay at home, watch my favourite movie and catch up on my
unfinished reading. Sometimes I draw or make some crafts, I can spend the
whole day tuning up my creative abilities. I can use my days off to explore
new hobbies or interests
43.When was the last time you have a few days off?
Labour Day, Hung Vuong anniversary and Southern liberation day took
place in a row so I had a pretty long holiday. While many people enjoy this
holiday to travel, a homebody like I choose to stay at home, doing things I
enjoy to help improve my mood and make me more productive when I’m
back to school.
