Form 9:9
March 15 – 19, 2021

Calculate. Leave your answer in standard form.

1) (2.4 x 102) + (3.5 x 102)

= (2.4 x 100) + (3.5 x 100)
= 240 + 350
= 590

In standard form: 590 = 5.9 x 100

= 5.9 x 102

2) (1 x 103) – (2.3 x 102)

= (1 x 1000) – (2.3 x 100)
= 1000 – 230
= 770

In standard form: 770 = 7.7 x 100

= 7.7 x 102
3) (8.2 x 102) + (5.8 x 102)
(8.2 x 100) + (5.8 x 100)
820 + 580
1400

In standard form: 1400 = 1.4 x 1000

= 1.4 x 103

4) (2 x 10-1) – (1.5 x 10-2)

1 1
(2 x ) – (1.5 x )
10 100
0.2 – 0.015
=0.185

1
In standard form: 0.185 = 1.85 x
10
= 1.85 x 10-1

5) (5 x 10-2) + (9 x 10-2)
1 1
(5 x ) + (9 x )
100 100
0.05 + 0.09
0.14

1
In standard form: 0.14 = 1.4 x
10
= 1.4 x 10-1
6) (7.2 x 102) x (5 x 101)
(7.2 x 100) x (5 x 10)
720 x 50
36,000

In standard form: 36000 = 3.6 x 10000

= 3.6 x 104
7) (8 x 102) x (5 x 10-2)
1
(8 x 100) x (5 x )
100
800 x 0.05
40
In standard form: 40 = 4 x 10
= 4 x 101

8) (5 x 102) ÷ (2 x 101)
(5 x 100) ÷ (2 x 10)
500 ÷ 20
25
In standard form: 25 = 2.5 x 10
= 2.5 x 101

9) (6 x 10-3) ÷ (3 x 10-1)
1 1
(6 x ) ÷ (3 x )
1000 10
0.006 ÷ 0.3
0.02
1
In standard form: 0.02 = 2 x
100
= 2 x 10-2
