CH 4 MAGNETIC EFFECT OF CURRENT
Q1. A current of 10A is flowing east to west in a long wire kept horizontally in the east-west
direction. Find magnetic field in a horizontal plane at a distance of:-
(a) 10 cm north
(b) 20 cm south from the wire and in the vertical plane at a distance of
(c) 40 cm downward and
(d) 50 cm upward
Q2. A long straight wire carrying a current of 30A is placed in an external uniform magnetic field of
4.0*10-4T parallel to the current. Find the magnitude of the resultant magnetic field at a point 2.0 cm
away from the wire.
Q3. Fig. shows two current carrying wires 1 & 2. Find the magnitudes and direction of the magnetic
field at points P, Q, & R.

Q4.Two parallel wires P & Q placed at a separation of r =6 cm carry electric currents I1=5A and
I2=2A in opposite directions as shown in fig. Find the point on the line PQ where the resultant
magnetic field is zero.

Q5. A current of 1.0A is flowing in the sides of an equilateral triangle of side 4.5 *10-2 m. Find the
magnetic field at the centroid of the triangle.
Q6. A straight wire carries a current of 3A. Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic field at a point
10 cm away from the wire.
Q7. Calculate the magnetic induction at the centre of a coil bent in the form of a square of side 10
cm carrying a current of 10A.
Q8. The plane of a circular coil is horizontal. It has 10 turns each of radius 8 cm. A current of 2A
flows through it. The current appears to flow clockwise from a point above the coil. Find the
magnitude and the direction of magnetic field at the centre of the coil due to the current.

0.50*10-4 T. Find the magnetic field due to this loop at a point on the axis at a distance of 5.0 cm
from the centre.
Q13. Two coaxial circular loops L1 & L2 radius 3 cm and 4 cm are placed as shown. What should be
the magnetic field and direction of the current in the loop L2 so that the net magnetic field at the
point 0 be zero?

Q14. A long wire having a semi-circular loop of radius r carries a current I, as shown in fig. Find the
magnetic field due to entire wire at the point O.
