2. _ Briefly summarize the process done in the Receiver when it captures the
incoming intelligence signal. (4 marks)
This is done by passing the "received" signal through another circuit containing the following components
+ Noise Filter ~ filters out the unwanted signal component.
* Digital to analog converter (D/A converter) - convert digital signal to analog
‘© Decoder ~ decodes the information
+ Demodulator — removes the carrier from intelligent
‘© Signal Amplifier — amplifies the signal
In type ~ Baseband and Pass Band
te the two signals transmi
(4 marks)
3. Different
Transmission.
Baseband transmission sends the information signal as itis without modulation. It's a transmission
technique that requires the entire bandwidth of the channel to send data. Baseband transmission uses digital
signals.
Broadband
Passband transmission shifts the signal to be transmitted in frequency to a higher frequency and
‘then transmits it, where at the receiver the signal is shifted back to its original frequency. The main
difference between passband and baseband is the presence of the modulator and the demodulator

‘© Double Sideband Suppressed Carrier (DSBSC): This is the same as the AM modulation above
but without the carrier.
‘+ Single Sideband (SSB): In this modulation, only half ofthe signal ofthe DSBSC is used.
