5. Description:
This course provides a background in the concepts, processes and institutions in the
financing of business enterprises. Topics covered include: financial markets and instruments;
financial analysis and planning; time value of money; bond and stock valuation; investment
decisions for a firm; determination of cost of capital; analysis of sources and uses of debt and
equity financing; working capital management; and selected topics in corporate finance.

Group Assignment
1. Our class is divided into 10 groups: Each group consists of 7-8 members
2. Deadline for group formation and topic registration: 4th lesson (5/5) (the class monitor will
email the instructor list of group). In case the class cannot divide into groups and there is a
dispute about the choice of topic, the instructor will divide according to the class list.
3. Submisstion time: The group assignment must be submitted electronically (both file word
and pdf) to the instructor – Nguyen Thi Hoa Hong via email: [email protected] (Subject:
Class – Group Assignment – FM – Group number - Topic) by Thursday 9/6/2022 – 11pm
(eg: Advanced class – Group Assignment – FM – Group 1 - LBO)

5. Group work requirements
- Part 1: Answer the following questions:
5.1. Present an overview of the financial theories and/or background required for the
research topic
5.2. Provide regulations/legal framework in Vietnam on the research topic
5.3. Present and discuss a typical success and failure case study on the research topic in
the last 5 years in Vietnam or in the world.
5.4. Provide suggestions or solutions for Vietnamese businesses to effectively apply the
research topic
- Part 2: Evaluation based on a 10-point scale of participation and contribution of
group members (note that this assessment must be public and receive the consensus
of group members)
6. Additional guidance
6.1. Presentation and structure – to achieve an excellent grade, your presentation also should
be excellent – this includes numbering tables, referencing correctly etc. Do not present a lot of
data and information in tables as appendices. Data or statistics that refer directly to your
discussion in the main body, should be presented in the main body. Tables and figures – tables
and figures need to be numbered and each should have a title that is self-explanatory. Your
analytical content must be high, demonstrating critical thinking and the ability to apply relevant
financial management concepts.
6.2. Word limit – 5,000 words (10% excess is allowable). This will exclude your references in
the executive summary, reference list, title page, table of contents and the appendices. Please,
note that your cover page must have your Full Name, ID Number, class, faculty, course name
and word count)
6.3. References must be followed Havard style (refer to website:
http://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm)
6.4. Poor spelling, punctuation and presentation will be penalised. (Font: Times New Roman,
font size: 12, spacing: 1.5).
6.5. Presentation: Each group has a maximum of 30 minutes to present. After 10 groups finish
presenting, all groups will have 15 minutes for Q&A.
6.6. Evaluation: Scores are assessed on both the group report and the presentation & Q&A
session
