SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH GRADE 9 (4A’S)

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the grade 9 students should be able to meet an 80%
proficiency with the following objectives:
A. Identify the difference between cause and effect.
B. List down causes and effects on some environmental issues.
C. Value the importance of environment conservation.

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminary Activities
A1: Greetings.
A2: Arranging of chairs.
A3: Checking of attendance.
A4: Review of the past lesson.
(The teacher will call some students for recap of the previous lesson.)
B. Motivation
Crossword Puzzle
(The teacher will present a crossword puzzle in the board. The crossword
puzzle contains words with clues provided as for the students to be guided
in answering. There are four word puzzles that students should answer.)

Clue:
1. This happens due to a prolonged rainfall.
2. This is triggered by a disturbance in the ground that weakens the
stability of its slope.
3. This occurs because of manmade activities such as mining, farming,
soil contamination, among others.
4. This is a process where warm wind vaporizes and travels along
equator.
(The teacher will discuss the relevance of the words to the clues which
represents causal and effect relationship)
C. Activity
C1.
A Poem to Remember
The teacher will divide the class into two—the left side and the right side.
The class will read a poem titled “The Bargain of the River and the
Stream” by A.G. Jackson through an alternate reading. The right side will
read the first line, the left side then reads the second line, right side again
for the first line and so on and so forth. After the poem is read, the teacher
will post the clock of vocabulary in the blackboard. The students then
participate in the activity.
C2. Shoot those Words!
(After the poem was read, the teacher then prompts a vocabulary game.
Just like in basketball, the students will use a paper ball with a word from
the poem written on it and the student must shoot the word on a basket
with the right equivalent synonym word. The words to be unlocked are 5.)

(The teacher uses wheel of names to ask the fundamental questions
regarding the poem.)
1. What is the poem all about?
2. What is the message of the poem?
3. To whom is the poem addressed?
4. Who/What is the persona?

(noun) the source or reason of an event or an action.
Ex: Flood is a result of deforestation.
Effect Cause
What is effect?
(noun) the result or outcome of a cause.
Ex: Due to global warming, the ozone layer is gradually getting depleted.

F. Application
(The class will be grouped into 5. Each group will receive a picture. With
the pictures given, the group must be able to list the possible causes and
effects of the scenario shown.)
G. Generalization
(The teacher will ask the following questions to the class)
1. It is defined as a result or outcome of an action, what is it?
2. It pertains to the source or reason of an action, what is it?
3. In what ways we could help to save our environment?
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Get ½ sheet of intermediate paper. Read the following statements
then put them in correct column.
1. Reforestation is needed because our forest is denuded.
2. Insurmountable ills in society are the results of environmental degradation.
3. Deaths in many urban growth centers are caused by pollution-related
disease.
4. Because of man’s cavalier attitude towards mother earth, his progress has
been marked by one crisis or another.
5. Air, oceans, and terra firma are heavily polluted because of man’s ruthless
exploitation of his environment.
