By now, you might have already heard about the government’s trust to push the implementation
of the Universal Healthcare Law.
UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE ACT
The Republic Act No. 11223, also known as the Universal Health Care Act, mandates
the institutionalization of health technology assessment (HTA) as a fair and transparent
priority setting mechanism that shall be recommendatory to the DOH and PhilHealth for
the development of policies and programs, regulation, and the determination of a range
of entitlements such as drugs, medicines, pharmaceutical products, other devices,
procedures and services.

1. In your opinion as nurses, what will be the net effect of this law to the overall impact of
healthcare in the Philippines?
-As a nursing student, I think the Republic Act No. 11223 or the Universal Health Care
Act will help the existing health sector like the hospital or PhilHealth to develop policies
and programs for Filipino families. With universal health care, everyone has free access
to the medical care they require whenever and wherever they need it. It covers the entire
range of necessary medical services, from health promotion to palliative care. The UHC
Act usually includes forward changes that will guarantee that every Filipino is healthy,
protected from health risks, and has access to inexpensive, high-quality, and easily
available healthcare and suitable health care readily available for them. All Filipinos'
needs for healthcare, particularly those of the most vulnerable citizens, would be met by
the government because those people in our country are the reasons why the Universal
Health Care Act or RA No. 11223 is published by our former President Duterte.

2. What will be the biggest impact of this law to us, Nurses?
- This law will also help the nurses, hospitals, and other sectors in the Philippines. The
Republic Act No. 11223 will help to improve access to quality hospitals and health
care facilities by giving the hospital the budgets to buy machines and medicines that
help not only help the patients but also the health workers because it will help them
to make their work faster and they can also build facilities in the hospital. With the
help of the Universal Health Care Act, it helps to employ more health workers like
doctors, nurses, and midwives in the hospital and they also become a beneficiary of
this act it also helps to ensure their safety in their areas of work. The Universal
Health Care Act will also benefit our nursing because it will help us give quality
nursing care to our patients and in the community where we work to give care and
prevent diseases.
