Environment Policy

Protecting our shared environment

Protecting our shared environment is of fundamental importance to all of us at DLF. We recognize the
positive impact we can make in protecting and adding to the environmental richness including the
resources and biodiversity of the ecosystem we operate in. We believe this not only makes sound
commercial sense for business sustainability; but also ensures inheritance of environmental health and
best practices by future generations.

To support this goal, our policy is to:

• Comply with and where possible, exceed the requirements and spirit of applicable environmental
legislation and regulations
• Optimize the use of resources in order to reduce pollution, minimize wastage, maximize
reutilization and thereby reduce our carbon footprint
• Enrich the biodiversity of the nature surrounding our areas of business
• Guide our internal stakeholders on environmentally sensitive property portfolio management
activities, including the responsible selection of construction sites

We will strive to achieve this by:

• Aligning organizational processes, establishing quantifiable targets, and adopting appropriate

review programs for sustained compliance and continuous improvement
• Continuously improving the environmental sustainability performance of our end-products (such
as using energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems, using feasible renewable energy sources,
treatment, and recycling of wastewater and by harvesting rainwater)
• Factoring in significant risks that might be posed to our business and operations due to climate
change by preparing for such change. Example of climate change adaptation measures could
include but are not limited to building flood defenses, xeriscaping and using tree species resistant
to storms and fires, adapting to high standards of energy conservation on a sustainable basis
• As far as possible, purchasing products and services that minimize the damage on the
environment on a lifecycle basis, encouraging the use of energy efficient raw materials containing
recycled materials, minimizing the generation of solid wastes, recycling the reusable wastes and
disposing the excess waste through environmentally safe methods
• Engaging our employees, suppliers, and vendors to reduce risks from environmental, health or
safety hazards for themselves and others in the vicinity of our operations. Training employees,
associates, and other stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and encouraging them
to work in an environmentally responsible manner
• Communicating the environmental commitment and performance of the organization to our
clients, customers and the public to raise awareness and encouraging them to participate in these
efforts
• Strive towards reducing emission across the operational footprint while improving energy
efficiency by promoting technological interventions
• Periodically conducting environmental checks of our portfolio
• Ensuring that all our development and portfolio management complies with the local and national
environmental requirements and that we endeavor to exceed them
Biodiversity Management

DLF recognizes that through the development, management, and operations of our properties, we have
an impact on, and responsibility towards the surrounding environment, natural resources, and
biodiversity. DLF is committed towards not operating in and around World Heritage areas and IUCN
Category I-IV protected areas along with any ecologically sensitive area of global and/or national
importance.

We at DLF believe in:

• Enriching the biodiversity by maximizing the green landscape in our real estate projects and
encouraging tree plantation as well as re-plantation
• Enhancing and managing biodiversity within property management activities, design, and
construction of new developments, and alongside expansion of our operational footprint
• Creating ecologically diverse zones in and around our properties
• Targeting positive biodiversity impact by adopting a mitigation hierarchy to:
 Enhance ecological value within our properties and through initiatives around our
operational footprint
 Avoid damage or disturbance of biologically important or sensitive sites
 Minimize negative human impacts on natural resources such as air, water, and
vegetation
 Rehabilitate or restore ecosystems in and around the operational sites
 Work with external partners to help us fulfill our commitment towards reducing our impact
to biodiversity
 Ensure that we set a target for, and strive to achieve ‘No Net Loss’ or Net Improvement
(e.g. Net Positive Impact, Net Positive Change, etc.)

Waste Management

DLF recognizes that through the development and management of properties, waste management is
critical to protecting the environment in and around the operational footprint.

 We ensure that hazardous waste is segregated and disposed-off through authorized

vendors
 E-waste such as printer cartridges, LED light drivers, electronic components etc. are
disposed through authorized vendors
 We ensure that wherever feasible, the solid waste is segregated and processed at the
plant and turned into compost for horticultural use
 Handling of waste materials during construction: Facilitate segregation of construction
and demolition waste at source to encourage reuse or recycling of materials, thereby
avoiding waste being sent to landfills

Pollution Control

Considering the extensive portfolio DLF has and its vision for development in the future, it is imperative
for us to minimize the impact on the quality of air and water.
 DLF is committed towards monitoring the emissions at all its sites and being compliant
with the national and local laws
 DLF is committed towards providing a comfortable indoor environment at all its sites. This
includes maintaining ambient air quality levels, providing access to natural light, pleasant
acoustic conditions and ensuring occupant control over lighting and thermal comfort
Water Management

We at DLF strive to minimize our impact on the water resources in and around our operational boundary.
We recognize that with the industry we operate in, and with the extensive portfolio of real estate we
manage and develop, our impact on water as a resource is extensive.

 DLF is committed towards minimizing the use of fresh water across all operations
 DLF is taking measures to continually improve water use efficiency and reduce the water
footprint by deploying measures for treatment and recycling of wastewater and harvesting
rainwater at all its operational and project sites.

Climate Change

DLF recognizes the climate changes that have been observed in the recent decades and the projections
for the short as well as long term. We recognize that no portfolio is not immune to the associated impacts
of climate change and extreme weather events. Thus, we are continuously trying to supplement our
understanding of the risks and impacts to the portfolio we manage and develop.

Portfolio Management

As a part of our environment management initiatives for our portfolio, DLF strives to:

 Conduct environmental due diligence at pre-purchase/acquisition/investment stage for

every new property based on an established baseline environmental performance
standard. This helps us in ensuring responsible site selection.
 Develop and manage properties with local and national environmental requirements and
resource efficiency
 Design maintenance programs for all the properties with focus on environmental
performance and resource efficiency
 Engage with key stakeholders including property managers and tenants by
communicating guidelines, holding training, and issuing newsletters to ensure that they
are up to date on emerging best practices and regulatory developments
 Undertake physical measures at an asset level and conduct capacity building initiatives
for our tenants, suppliers, and residential communities to ensure preparedness of our
properties towards existing and future threats of natural disasters

Sustainable Material Sourcing

Considering the material intensive industry DLF operates in, it is important that we source our building
materials in a sustainable manner. DLF strives to ensure that all our material sourcing and procurement is
conducted in a sustainable manner while minimizing the impact on the environment.

To support this goal, our policy is to periodically update the Environmental Policy based on review and
feedback.
