1. Lower’s the ignition temperature
2. Widens the flammable range
3. Lower’s the MIE

present, or present for long periods.
Zone 1 Explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in

Equipment Protection Levels (EPL’s) — teobox cuide sare uo 13
EPL (Equipment Protection Level) is the international
equivalent to the ATEX categories.
The EPL system considers the consequence of an
explosion rather than the likelihood.
This system does not suffer from the displacement
confusion of categories (zone 0 category 1 etc.) and is
very easy to understand and decipher, however if both
ATEX and IEC certification is required then it is yet
another mark on the already overcrowded label.

March 1, 1996.
Compliance enforced July 1st 2003 for all NEW Ex equipment placed on the
market within the EU, the equipment may also need to comply with other
relevant Directives for CE marking.
Manufacturers could follow the old Directives and State Regulations until
June 30, 2003, thereafter, full compliance required to ATEX 94/9/EC for Ex
equipment and assemblies.
This directive is also known as ATEX 95 and is one of the directives used to
improve trade between European nations by removing technical barriers.
ATEX 94/9/EC was superseded by ATEX 2014/34/EU on the 20th April 2016
