State and explain 5 key Professional Principles in teaching
Stephen Covey emphasized the three enduring truths in life: Change,
Choice, and Principles. This sentiment couldn't be more accurate. Our
world is in a constant state of flux, and the key to survival and
prosperity lies in our ability to adapt and make judicious decisions.
Everything in our surroundings is influenced by one principle or
another.
What are principles ? Principles are the basic guidelines or
foundations within which things must operate.
Teaching is a complex profession, and without considering the
fundamental principles of teaching and learning, it would be a
chaotic endeavor.
Having said that, today, we will be talking about the basic
principles of in teaching.
The principles of teaching include :
1. Establishing an Interactive Learning Atmosphere: A
classroom should never be one-sided. It should serve as a space
for meaningful dialogues where both students and teachers
actively engage. This approach is essential in nurturing an
environment conducive to active learning.
Educators have the option to integrate activities such as games,
singing, dancing, and more. A dynamic setting is imperative for
optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of learning.
2. Feedback and Communication: Effective communication is
central to tracking and facilitating learning. Discussing the
principles of teaching without emphasizing the significance of
communication and feedback is incomplete. How can you
ascertain if students have grasped a concept without obtaining
feedback? Evaluations and assessments cover various aspects
including learning aptitude and capacity. To ensure the
effectiveness of your teaching methods and the appropriateness
of your approaches, it is imperative for teachers to engage in
regular conversations with their students.
3.Inclusivity: Every child is unique. Their learning style, pace,
and comprehension levels differ from one individual to another.
Embracing and accommodating these differences is essential in
creating an inclusive learning environment.
Acknowledging and catering to the needs of every learner is a
cornerstone principle of teaching that should never be
overlooked. It is imperative for a teacher to refrain from being
judgmental, and it is wholly unacceptable to make a student feel
excluded from the classroom. Strive to create an inclusive and
welcoming environment where every student feels heard and
valued, making the classroom a safe space for all.
4. Collaborating with Colleagues: Within a school
environment, teachers are required to work closely with
administrators, fellow educators, and other staff members to
ensure a secure and enriching learning environment for
students. It is essential for teachers to respect and follow the
guidance provided by administrators, even if certain rules or
expectations may seem challenging. This helps maintain the
integrity of the administrative authority and sets a positive
example for students.
In cases of disagreements among teachers, it is important to
address the matter privately and refrain from speaking
negatively about colleagues in the presence of students.
Additionally, teachers should not engage in appropriate
relationships with colleagues. Keeping personal feelings and
adult behave out of the School.
5. Adaptability and Betterment: The educational landscape is
in a perpetual state of transformation. Just as a tree must
extend its roots to thrive, so too must a teacher continue to
learn. No matter how knowledgeable one may be, there are
always new things to discover. Stay informed about
developments in the field and integrate relevant practices into
your classroom. Employ innovative teaching methods and tailor
your approach to suit your students' needs.
