Introduction
The global poultry market grew from $352.02 billion in 2022 to $378.84 billion in
2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6%.. The poultry market is expected to
grow to $487.39 billion in 2027 at a CAGR of 6.5%. Asia Pacific was the largest poultry-
producing region in the world in 2022, followed by Western Europe.

United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The largest share of this presence
belongs to Asian countries was 15.8 billion as of 2019.

industry also poses potential health risks to workers, particularly those related to
respiratory disease (Jameel et al., 2015). According to World Health Organization
(WHO, 2023), annually, 4.1 million died due to chronic respiratory disease.
Additionally chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are persistent, common, and
leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Estimated to cause 4 million
premature deaths annually, CRDs include COPD, asthma, ILD, PS, and
pneumoconiosis. In 2019, European Union states spent €380 billion on CRD
patient care, posing a significant public health issue.

death
Furthermore, epidemiological studies have shown that acute and chronic respiratory disease
symptoms are prevalent in poultry-farm workers due to exposure to environmental conditions
and live birds in confinement buildings. Chronic respiratory disorders are also prevalent
among poultry-farm workers, with ‘ODTS (organic dust toxic syndrome)’ and asthma being
the most common. The type of health response depends on the level and frequency of
exposure (Viegas et al., 2013)

This study aims to determine the level of knowledge and awareness
among those employed in poultry farms about the risk factors related to
respiratory diseases. In order to emphasize the need for programs and
interventions and find any knowledge gaps, we will be assessing the attitudes
and knowledge of poultry farm workers. This study will be conducted to address
and provide solutions to enhance the well-being of poultry farm workers.
