PROCEDURES

MANUAL

REAL AEROCLUB DE
MÁLAGA
1. RUNWAY IN USE
The aerodrome has two runways, 12 and 30. The preferred runway is number 12. No
change of runway is allowed until the tailwind component is of 5 kts or more by the
final of the runway, at an altitude of 500 feet. In case the windsock drops, the
preferred runway will be 12.

2. METEOROLOGICAL DATA PROVIDED BY THE WEATHER STATION

3. OPERATIONAL RESTRICTIONS:
 We recommend the submission of the Flight Plan for every flight, even if we
remain in the G space making a local flight at the aerodrome.
(Malaga Operations has notified that for local flights we should put in route
DCT RMA DCT for the FP to be shown on the air-traffic controller system).
 The operations will never start before 8h.
 Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays, from 10h to 13h, training touch-and-goes
are forbidden.
 Touch-and-goes are only allowed from 9h.
 Engine run-ups must be carried out at the head of the runway in use.
 Warm-ups are to be done on the starting point (parking or taxiway). When
ready, you can taxi towards the runway holding point.
 Maximum 2 aircrafts allowed at the holding point. Use the holding point in a
responsible way, for the minimum time.
 If the runway in use is number 30, we recommend as a reference point to
abort the landing not to surpass the windsock.
 If the preferred runway is number 12, the visual reference will be the hangars
intersection.
 The student performing a SOLO flight should be identified by the rest of the
traffics, establishing communication with the following message:
PILOT: “EC-XXX SOLO EN VIENTO EN COLA”
 Respect the holding point for runway number 30, nobody should surpass the
yellow line showing the limit.

4. MAXIMUM OF AIRCRAFT IN THE CIRCUIT PATTERN


The maximum number of aircrafts in the circuit pattern will be 3.
5. ESTABLISHING THE DIMENSION OF THE CIRCUIT PATTERNS
The altitude of the circuit pattern is of 1,000 feet AGL.
a) RUNWAY 12 CIRCUIT PATTERN
- UPWIND: we will extend the upwind avoiding to overfly Velez. For that we will
take as reference the town cemetery, performing the turn from upwind to
crosswind by leaving the cemetery on the left and the National Road A-356 on
the right.
- CROSSWIND: we will continue in crosswind until we calculate that with the
necessary 90º right turn to establish the downwind, we will be flying with the
town of Benamocarra on the left.
- DOWNWIND: we will establish in downwind keeping the town of Benamocarra
on the left and the farmhouse (white house at the top of the hill) on the right.
- BASE: turn to base before arriving to the town of Triana. For that we will take
as visual reference the antenna. We will turn to base before arriving to the
antenna if the weather allows it, otherwise we will do so after the antenna and
before Triana.
- FINAL.

b) RUNWAY 30 CIRCUIT PATTERN


- UPWIND: we will climb until reaching 500 feet and turn at crosswind before
arriving to the town of Triana.
- CROSSWIND: having Triana on the right, we will continue in crosswind until we
leave Benamocarra on the right by turning to the left in order to enter in
downwind
- DOWNWIND: we leave Benamocarra on the right and on the last 1/3 of
downwind we will pass between the farmhouse and Benamocarra.
- BASE: before arriving to the National Road A-356 we will turn to base.
- FINAL: we will access the final leaving the National Road A-356 on the left and
the cemetery on the right.
Note:
We remind you that it is forbidden to fly over urban areas and or over an open-
air assembly of people.

6. RUNWAY CHANGES
When there are 5 kts or more by the final of the runway, at an altitude of 500 feet, this
will indicate the change of configuration.
The maximum of aircraft in circuit pattern to make runway in use changes will be 3. In
case there is any traffic waiting to access the circuit pattern, it will remain orbiting
until finishing the manoeuvre.
When making a set up change and establishing the opposite runway as preferred, it is
mandatory to assign a certain order.
Independently of the set up and having 3 traffics on the circuit pattern, we will follow
the following pattern:
- The last aircraft to take off will be the first to turn. It will turn always towards
the field to land and it will get out from the circuit pattern until the two other
traffics have finished the manoeuvre.
- The two other traffics on circuit pattern will establish themselves as follows:
one on the last 1/3 of the downwind, and the other on the first 1/3 of the
downwind. Those two traffics, coordinating by frequency, will initiate a turn at
the same time and to the same direction to avoid conflict. The turn will always
be made towards the field, to the inside. If it is made to the outside, we could
face some issues due to the orography of the area.
- The last aircraft to access the new runway will confirm the change of runway
by frequency:

MANIOBRA DE CAMBIO DE CONFIGURACIÓN.
- Once the change of direction has been performed, the first aircraft which
initiated the change of set up will be able to go back to the circuit pattern.

7. LEAVING THE AXARQUIA AIRSPACE VIA PTM


a) RUNWAY IN USE NUMBER 12
In order to depart from the airspace via PTM, when the runway in use is number
12, we will proceed upwind towards Torre del Mar (PTM) and we will take as
reference Velez River. The river will remain on the right of the pilot. We depart
from the circuit pattern with 1,000 feet GL and we will get to PTM at that altitude.
From PTM we will proceed to Torrox at the same altitude while we take as
reference the coastline, keeping it on the left of the pilot (by the water). From
Torrox Town there will be no more altitude restrictions.
The reason for the vertical restriction is not to be in conflict if there is any aircraft
returning to Axarquia. The horizontal separation with the returning traffics will be
indicated by the coastline.
b) RUNWAY IN USE NUMBER 30
In order to depart from the field via PTM, when the runway in use is number 30,
we will leave the circuit pattern on the last 1/3 of downwind and we will take
Velez River as visual reference. The pilot will have Velez River on the left. He will
continue at 1,000 feet AGL until arriving to Torre del Mar (PTM), and from there to
Torrox, at the same altitude, continuing at 1,000 AGL, and having the coastline as
visual reference on the left of the pilot.

8. RETURNING TO THE AXARQUIA AIRSPACE VIA PTM


Once we return to the airfield approaching from the South, via PTM, we must proceed
from Torrox Town to Torre del Mar (PTM non-official visual point). At Torrox we will
reach 2,000 fts staying at the same altitude until PTM, and we will make our first
communication by Axarquia frequency.
In this communication they will notify us the runway in use. From PTM, we will use as
visual reference Velez River to locate the aircraft flight path. If it is:
- Runway 12: we will continue the path having as reference Velez River and
keeping it on the left. This way we will join the circuit pattern on the first 1/3
of downwind.
- Runway 30: we will continue the path having as reference Velez River and
keeping it on the left. This way we will join directly to left base 30. From PTM
we will initiate a descent to join the circuit pattern. In downwind it will be of
1,000 AGL and in the final at 500 feet.

The horizontal separation from the circuit pattern to Torrox is given by:
- Velez River
- The coastline
The vertical separation will be:
- Departing traffic always at 1,000 AGL
- Arriving traffic:
o From Torrox to PTM we will be at 2,000 feet
o From PTM being at 2,000 feet, we will descend to 1,000 AGL when we arrive
to the circuit pattern

9. NERJA OPERATIONS AREA

It is space G in that area until 1,000 feet altitude. When we descend we access controlled
airspace.

It is mandatory to establish communication by radio when accessing and leaving the airspace.
The area presents many communication issues due to the low power of the radios and the
orography of the area (until 3,500 feet we cannot establish communication).

The solution to this issue is to ascend to 3,500 feet and establish a first communication with
control, that should be Seville, but sometimes due to frequency issues, it is the controller from
Malaga Aproximacion who takes responsibility. As a result, every traffic can be with a different
frequency and without notification of who is traffic with who.

The solution is to agree with control with who to make the initial communication, Malaga
Aproximacion or Centro Sevilla. They need to notify the traffics in the area and they should
give us a transponder code. From there, we should self-manage ourselves on a secondary
frequency. When we want to come back to Axarquia we will establish communication with
control again, we will notify that we leave the manoeuvre area and we will go back to the field.

10. CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT TO ALMERIA

In order to establish a horizontal separation, we will take the shoreline as reference.

 On the cross-country flight from Malaga to Almeria we will fly over the sea,
and the shoreline will remain to the left of the pilot.
 On the cross-country from Almeria to Malaga we will fly over land, and the
coastline will also remain to the left of the pilot.

When we cross the manoeuvre area:

 If we are departing traffic to Almeria, we will remain at 1,000 feet until we cross the
abovementioned area. From there everyone can proceed at their discretion.
 If we are arriving traffic from Almeria to PTM, we will cross the manoeuvre area at
2,000 feet remaining at that altitude until PTM.

11. ACCESING VIA PV

A) RUNWAY IN USE 12

We will notify around the vertical of PV, not below 2,000 feet AMSL, and we will join by
the valley to the vertical of runway 12 not below 1,500 AMSL to access the circuit pattern
adapting to the traffic.

B) RUNWAY IN USE 30

We will notify around the vertical of PV, not below 2,000 feet AMSL, and we will join by
the valley to the vertical of runway 30 not below 1,500 AMSL to access the circuit pattern
adapting to the traffic.

12. DEPARTURE VIA PV

A) RUNWAY IN USE 12

We will extend right downwind 12 until reaching 1,500 feet to cross the QMS towards PV.

B) RUNWAY IN USE 30

We will continue upwind until reaching 1,500 feet to make a turn to the right towards PV.

13. EMERGENCY LANDING AREA

On the final version we will identify different points from the river.
