SCRIPT SPEAKING PROJECT
Adrián: Patient (16) Víctor: Psychologist (300)
Mental disorder: Autism
Victor: Greetings sir. I’m your new Psychologist. My name is Victor. What’s your name?
Adri: My name is Adrián…
V: Please take a seat, Adrian.
A: Ok… (he sits down)
V: What do you expect to achieve in this appointment?
A: I want to have friends and a beautiful girlfriend.
V: Well, I can just give you the tools and the advice to improve your social life but you will
have to work it on your own. Is it ok?
A: Ok…
V: Fine, these are going to be the rules: you will tell me your problems and I won't criticize or
judge you, I am here to help you. Can you tell me the reason for your appointment?
A: Everyone hates me at school.
V: And who is “everyone”?
A: My classmates hate me.
V: Why do you think your classmates hate you?
A: People run away from me when I approach them during the break and I don't know why.
V: Who runs away from you during the break?
A: My classmates but mainly girls.
V: What do you do during the break?
A: I try to talk to people but they always disregard me.
V: Do you talk to anyone during class?
A: No.
V: Ok, what did you do in school today?
A: Well… This morning we were at PE class and we were playing basketball. But suddenly,
one of my teammates threw the ball hastily at my face, I got upset with him and they kicked
me out of the team.
V: Do you think the teammate threw the ball on purpose? Or do you think he threw it
accidentally?
A: Of course he did! He just wanted to hurt me! He is an idiot and has no respect for others!
(hits the desk)
V: Remember the rules, no criticism and no judging. We are here to fix your problems. I
understand that you felt bad when he threw the ball. Why do you think he threw the ball at
purpose?
A:He threw it because he hates me and he wanted to hurt me! Everyone wants to make me
feel bad. Nobody cares about me.
V: Did you talk with him after he threw the ball to confirm his intentions?
A: Of course not, I know that he did it on purpose.
V: Well, sometimes we think stuff in our mind that does not match reality. You might think
that your teammate threw the ball at you on purpose, that’s what your mind thinks but you’ve
got to confirm his intentions by talking to him.
A: Yeah, but how can I talk to him to confirm that?
V: Well, you could start by asking him: “Why did you hit me in the face?” and see if he really
wanted to hurt you. If he says something like: “Sorry, I didn’t mean to hit you.” then maybe
he hit you accidentally and you should forgive him, not everyone is against you.
A:I understand…
V: Does this happen to you frequently with other people?
A: … (he gets distracted)
V: Don’t worry, we have 1 hour left. Take your time.
A: Did you say something?
V: Do you have problems frequently with other people like you just had with the PE class?
A:It sometimes happens with my family.
V: Which family member do you have more problems with?
A: My mother always shouts at me.
V: Why does she shout at you?
A: She forces me to clean up my room! It looks like I am her slave. Everytime I refuse to do it
she shouts at me and I get upset.
V: What do you think your mother's intentions are when she tells you to clean the room?
A: She is a dictator, she treats me as a slave and she doesn't love me!
V: Have you ever tried to confirm why she wants you to clean up the room?
A: No, I haven´t.
V: As I told you before, I think you should try to confirm people’s intentions by talking to
them, if you never talk to them, you will never know.
A: … (keeps thinking)
V: Well, how do you get along with the rest of your family?
A: I feel inferior compared to my brother..
V: Why do you feel inferior though?
A: My parents are always comparing our marks at school. He gets better marks than me and
it makes me feel sad and envious.
V: I understand, it feels very bad to be compared because everyone is different in their own
way. What do you think about yourself without taking into account your parents’ opinion?
A: I feel like I don’t deserve anything and I am pure shit.
V: Why do you feel that way?
A: I am not good at anything, neither studies, sports or even at cleaning up my room.
V: Is that something you found out about yourself or do people make you think that way?
A: Maybe it is people. My parents told me that I have autism and I don't know what that is,
maybe it is because of that…
V: Well, this was our first session. We will work with these problems on the next session and
we will work on your relationships and you will learn how to get friends and a beautiful
girlfriend. Thanks for coming to this appointment and see you next week.
A: Ok, see you next week.
