Assignment 1

The document contains 6 structural analysis problems involving beams. Problem 1 asks to find the maximum slope and deflection of a simply supported beam with given span, load, moment of inertia, and modulus of elasticity. Problem 2 asks to determine the load required at the center of a steel beam to cause a given deflection, given its dimensions and modulus. Problem 3 asks for the slope and deflection of a cantilever beam with a given point load, length, modulus, and moment of inertia. Problems 4-6 involve additional beam configurations and calculations of slope and deflection.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS II Course Code: --------

Part One :Solve the following Questions

1- Simply supported beam of span 6m is subjected to central load of 15kN find the max slope and
deflection of the beam.
Take I= 13x106mm4 and E= 350Gpa
2- A steel beam 145mm wide and 260mm deep has a span of 8m. Determine the load that can be
placed at it’s centre to cause the beam a deflection of 10mm. Take E= 8 Gpa
3- A cantilever beam with a point load of 150kN at the front has length of 5m and has E=630Gpa
and I= 18x106mm4
4- A cantilever beam of UDL of 40kN/m has an length of 8m find the slope and deflection of the
beam. Take E=406Gpa and I=18x106 mm4
5- A steel joist, simply supported over a span of 6m carries a point load of 67kN at 1.6m from the
left hand support. Find the position and magnitude of the max deflection.
Take EI = 450Gpa and I=18x106N-mm2
6- A simply supported beam AB of span 5 meters is carrying a point load of 30 kN at a
distance 3.75m from left end A. calculate the slope at A and B and deflection under the
load
Take EI = 400Gpa
