Assignment 7

The document contains a series of questions related to the Double Integration Method and Moment Area Method for analyzing beams under various loading conditions. It includes calculations for elastic curves, slopes, and deflections for different beam configurations and materials. Specific examples involve cantilever and simply supported beams with point loads and uniformly distributed loads, requiring the application of engineering principles and material properties.

Double Integration Method (Chapter 7)

Q. For the beam and loading shown, determine (a) the equation of the elastic
curve, (b) the slope at end A, (c) the maximum deflection.
Q. A 2 meters long cantilever of rectangular section 150 mm wide and 300 mm deep is
loaded as shown in the fig. Calculate the deflection at the free end. Take, E = 10.5
GN/m2.
Q. A beam of length 10m is simply supported at its end and carries two point loads of 100kN and 60kN at a
distance of 2m and 5m respectively from the left support. Calculate the deflections under each load. Find also the
maximum deflection. Take I = 18 x 10^8 mm^4 and E = 2 x 10^5 N/mm^2.
Q. A cantilever beam of 3m length and of uniform rectangular cross-section 150mm wide and 300mm deep is
loaded with a 30kN load at its free end. In addition to this it carries a uniformly distributed load of 20kN/m over
the entire length. Calculate the maximum slope and deflection.
Q. A cantilever of length 30m carries a uniformly distributed load of 24kN/m length over entire length. If moment
of inertia of the beam = 10^8mm^3 and E= 2x10^5N/mm^2, determine the slope and deflection at the free end
using moment area method.
Q. A simply supported beam of 8m length carries two point loads of 64kN and 48kN at 1m and 4m respectively
from the left hand end. Find the deflection under each load and the maximum deflection.
Q. A simply supported beam of 8m long carries a uniformly distributed load of 3kN/m over the whole span and a
concentrated load of 6kN at the center. Determine the central deflection and the slope at the ends. (E=200GPa,
and I=100x10^6mm^4).
Q. Determine maximum slope and deflection of cantilever beam loaded with uniformly distributed load, ‘w’ kN/m,
throughout the span, ‘L’.
Q. A simply supported beam of 5m is carrying a point load of 30kN at a distance of 3.75m from the left end.
Calculate the slope at two ends and deflection at the application point of the load.
Q. A cantilever beam AB of length L, modulus of elasticity E and moment of inertia I carries load P at its free end.
Determine the equation of slope and deflection, also find out slope and deflection at the free end.
Q. determine the reactions at supports for the beam as shown in the figure below.

Q. A cantilever of 3m span carries a uniformly distributed load of 10kN per meter length for 2m starting from the
fixed end. Determine the deflection of the free end. [E=210GPa, I=80x10^6mm^4].
Q. A simply supported steel beam, 6m long is circular in cross-section and is of 15 cm diameter. What point load
should be placed at the midspan to restrict the deflection to 1.035cm. what will be the slope at the ends? [E =
2x10^5N/mm^2]
Q. A simply supported R.C. rectangular beam of span 3m is carrying a UDL of 8kN/m over the entire span. If the
allowable bending stress is 7N/mm^2 and the allowable deflection is 10mm, find the necessary width and depth of
the section. [Take E=1x10^4 N/mm^2]
