I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, at least 85% of the students can be able to:
a. identify the appropriate metric unit of measurement in length;
b. convert metric unit of measurement in length from one unit to
another; and
c. show determination and patience in learning mathematics.
d. apply unit of measurement as metric system into daily routine.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
WORD OF WAR:
The teacher will show a scrambled word and the students will arrange
it to find the magic words.(Group Activity)
Instructions:
The class will be divided into four (4) groups
Every group must select one (1) representative to post the
answer on the board.
The teacher will give the materials to each group.
Each group is only given five (5) minutes to fix the scrambled
letters.
Those who can get the correct answer in the fastest time will
get a point and who will get the highest point will be the winner.
1. ETMER
2. LEMIMITERL
3. CNETIRTMEE
4. ILMKOETER
5. VONRSECION
2. Analysis
The teacher will ask;
a. Based on your answer, what do you think is our lesson today?
b. What words came first into your mind when you hear the word
Metric System?
3. Abstraction
The teacher will let the students to answer.
What is metric system?
The following are the metric units of length.
Unit Symbols Fraction
Kilometer Km 1000 meters
Hectometer Hm 100 meters
Dekameter Dam 10 meters
Meter M 1 meter
Decimeter Dm 0.1 meter
Centimeter Cm 0.01 meter
Millimeter Mm 0.001 meter
Meter is the basic unit of length for metric measure.
By lining up these prefixes in a chart, you can easily figure out how
many centimeters are in a kilometer, and how many milliliters are in a
liter. This is where King Henry comes in.
By remembering the mnemonic device (saying) used to help you
memorize and retain information, "King Henry Died By Drinking
Chocolate Milk," you can remember how to set up your chart. Each
word in the King Henry phrase represents a metric unit.
km hm dam m dm cm mm
King Henry Died By Drinking Chocolate Milk
To convert from a larger unit to a smaller unit use the metric
converter then move the decimal point in the given quality on place to
the right until the desired unit is reached.
For Example:
1. Convert 3.4325km to m.
Solution:
The 3 spaces between kilometre and meter in the metric converter
require a movement of 3 decimal places to the right ( big to small unit).
So, move the decimal point in the given number 3 decimal places to
the right. Thus,
3.4325 km = 3432.5 m
To check, recall that 1km = 1000m. Hence,
1000 m
3.4325 km x = 3432.5 m
1 km
2.Convert 2m to cm:
Solution:
1000 m
2m x = 2000cm
1 km
3. Convert 7.15m to cm.
Solution:
100 cm
7.15m x = 715 cm
1m
To convert from a smaller unit to a larger unit use the metric
converter then move the decimal point in the given quantity one place
to the left until the desired unit is reached.
Another example:
4. Convert 2678mm to m.
Solution:
The 3 spaces between millimeter and meter in the metric converter
require a movement of 3 decimal places to the left ( small to big unit).
So, move the decimal point in the given number 3 decimal places to
the left. Thus,
2678 mm = 2.678 m.
To check, recall that 1 mm = 0.001 m. Hence,
0.001 m
2678 mm x = 2.678m
1 mm
5. Convert 4585 cm to m:
Solution:
0.0 1m
4585 cm x = 45.85 m
1 cm
6. Convert 2650m to km
Solution:
0.001 km
2650m x = 2.65 km
1m
4. Application
Let the students participate. With the same group in their first
activity, the teacher will give a set to convert metric unit of
measurement in length. The scores will be recorded in their
participation.
Use the metric conversion to convert the metric measurement as
indicated.
1. Rhea ran 5. 3 kilometers. How many meters did she run?
2. A snake crawled 300 dekameters. How many kilometers is
this?
3. Anthony climbs a tree with a height of 7meters. What is the
height of the tree when it is convert in centimeters?
IV. Evaluation CONVERT ME!
The teacher will give an individual task.
Convert each to the indicated unit.
1. 9 m = ______mm
2. 2000 cm = ______m
3. 5.7 dam = ______km
4. 16.8 km = ______cm
5. 53000 cm = ______hm
V. Assignment Follow- up from evaluation.
Complete the table.
Given hm dm cm mm
1. 67 km
2. 8.3 dam
3. 400 m
