VISION IRalNNG io Eyes . A safe, relaxing and completely natural vision training technique. TAKES ONLY MINUTES A DAY INCLUDES: Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses® Manual Containing Easy-To-Do Exercises Background Information Vision training techniques are not really anything new. Various applications of vision training have been used throughout history. The Indian yogi Patanjali devised techniques to tone and condition the extraocular muscle more than 2,000 years ago. in the 7th century the Greek physician Paulus Aeginta used a mask which had eye holes in it forcing the crossed eye to straighten out. (1)In the early 20th century, the American ophthalmologist William H. Bates commented, after 30 years of research: "The theory that poor vision is unavoidable does not fit the observed facts, and | have seen many cases in which errors of refraction spontaneously recovered or changed form." Bates further believed that stress can adversely affect the visual system. To induce relaxation, he advocated covering the eyes and swinging the body. He devised exercises to improve eye movements and help sharpen acuity. Through his research, and the continued research of his followers, the field of behavioral optometry was born. (2) Today, many sports figures have realized the benefit of good clear vision to the modern athlete. Researchers have devised various methods of visual training to enhance the vision, and thus, the performance of today’s athletes. Vision Training Contrary to what most people think, vision is more than just opening the eyes and seeing the world. In fact, vision comprises more than ten different functions, the most common being: 1. Accommodation -- the ability of the eyes to focus. 2. Convergence -- the ability to bring the eyes inward when looking at close objects. 3. Divergence -- the ability of the eyes to go outward when looking from far to near. 4. Version -- the ability of the eyes to look and follow objects in all directions. 5. Steropsis -- the ability to judge the relative distance of objects and to see in three dimension. 6. Saccades -- the ability to quickly look from one object to another. {3)Along with the various functions involved with vision, we must also recognize that vision can be enhanced with Practice. The ability to practice the various functions involved with vision is what vision training is all about. Stress Reduction In a high pressure technological society, stress and tension may have an affect on vision especially for people who doa lot of reading, accounting, or computer work. It is important that we take the time to release the stress and tension that builds up in our lives and our bodies. Relaxation and exercise have proven to be important stress reducers. Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses (4) You may notice that when you wear your Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses blurred objects come into better focus. The phenomenon occurs with no magnification or corrective lenses involved. Dr. Janet Goodrich explains: "The clarity is due to the fact that the blur circle on the retina is reduced." These figures depict what occurs when Training Glasses are placed in front of an eye looking at a distant object. Figure 1. Parallel light entering this eye is brought to a focus within the . eye (F) and produces a large blur \ circle on the retina. blur orca Figure 2. The moment Vision m2 Training Glasses are introduced in front of the eye, a much more iri narrow parallel pencil of light i comes through the hole. Wearing Your Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses To receive the maximum benefit from your Vision Training Glasses, wear them 15 minutes or more a day. The longer you exercise the more you can see the results. Wear your Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses for distance or close up viewing. You may use them for many of your daily activities such as watching television or reading. They also cut down on glare from the sun, snow or water. DO NOT WEAR VISION TRAINING GLASSES FOR DRIVING! The hole pattern on your Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses will gradually seem to disappear after your eyes have adjusted. Natural Eyes Training Glasses should be worn over your eyes, not over contacts or glasses. Adjusting Your Natural Eyes Training Glasses If your Training Glasses do not fit properly, submerge the glasses in warm water for no longer than 10 minutes. This will help to soften the frames. Then take the glasses out of the water and slowly bend the nose arch until they fit properly. When cooled, they will remain in the new, adjusted position. Eye Exercises / Following a simple eye exercise program for a few minutes a day along with your Natural Eyes Vision Training Glasses may naturally enhance the ability of your eyes to focus. The following exercise program is designed to aid in the relaxation and exercise of your eyes. It is not necessary to wear your Vision Training Glasses while doing the following eye exercises. Exercise #1. Eye Stretching This is an effective method of toning and conditioning the muscles that surround the eyeball. This famous yoga technique has a 2,000 year history. 12 ye 7 10 9 IN 6 Clock Rotation. Place the chart at eye level. Stand or sit at a distance where the chart is slightly blurred. Look at the dot in the center and imagine you are in front of a giant clock. Now look at the 12 o'clock position, then back to the center. Next, look at the 1 o’clock position and back to the center. Keep your head and shoulders still. Complete the clock ending at the 12 o’clock position. 3 6 Exercise #2. Scanning The eyes scan the world by means of visual jumps known as ’saccades’ which direct the gaze from object to object. Efficient vision depends on fast, accurate saccades. Look at any object in a room. Now look at another object. Then another, from close to far, from objects that are in focus to those that are blurred. Move around the raom making accurate jumps. Note: Scanning may be cultivated into a part of your daily routine, Exercise #3. Pencil Pushups This exercise can help your ability to focus and converge on near objects, and is especially important for people who may have difficulty reading or doing close up work. Obtain a pencil with imprinting on the side of it. Hold the pencil at arm’s length. Breathing slowly and deeply, bring the pencil toward you and inhale. Feel the sensation in your eyes as they converge on the pencil. When the imprinting begins to blur or break up, begin your exhale and move the pencil slowly back to arm’s length. Try to keep the imprinting in focus at ail times and work on getting the pencil as close to you as pnssibie. Exercise #4, Palming Paiming is a simple technique Providing relaxation for the visual system which may also trigger clear flashes. Close your eyes and cover them with cupped hands. Rest the heel of your palms on your cheek bones and cross your hands on your forehead. Do not apply any pressure to the eyes themselves and be sure to Stay relaxed. Now, breathing slowly and deeply, imagine the most relaxing scene that you can (beach, palm trees, étc.) Try to visualize as much detail in the picture as possible. Palming can be done to relieve the buildup of tension or stress in the eyes. 9 Exercise #5. Swinging Moving the body gently from side to side provides relaxation to the whole body and may trigger clear flashes. Swinging helps to relieve tension in the neck, back and shoulders. Stand with your feet at shoulder width. Gently move your body from side to side. Remember to relax your arms as they hang loosely at your sides. As you swing, lift each heel off the floor but do not lift your entire foot off of the floor. Allow your eyes to wander without focusing on anything in particular. Relax, breath slowly and deeply...relax. 10 GLOSSAR Acuity: Keeness of vision. Behavioral Optometry: Visual exercise through natural means. Ciliary Muscle: The muscle which encircles the lens of the eye. It contracts and releases. This action changes the shape of the lens producing accommodation. Refractive Error: An error in the eye's ability to bend incoming light to create a clear image. Retina: The responsive layer of specialized nerve cells at the back of the eye which change light into electrical impulses sent to the visual brain. Clear Flashes: Phenomenon recorded by Bates where resting and relaxation of the eyes produces flashes of clear vision. 11 You have taken the first step toward natural eye exercise. Start slowly with your exercise program but be consistent. Be patient and persevere! Now, before you begin, take a few minutes and think about your priorities. "No time" is the most common reason for failure to see a program through to the desired result. You must make the time to follow your program. Partial Bibliography/End Notes/Reference List 1.
