Technology innovation has an important influence on employee’s job
performance where it helps to reduce human error, increase productivity, and
increase the speed of communication.
Hence, the main purpose of this study is to determine the impact of
technological advancement in the employee`s performance in the business
sector in Nagcarlan, Laguna. Several dimensions for employee job performance
were considered in this research namely motivation, productivity, and time
.Employing a quantitative research method, data was collected from 20
respondents through online survey questionnaire using purposive sampling. The
data gathered were collected, organized, tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted.
The findings indicated that motivation and productivity have a significant
relationship to technological advancement. In other words, we can say that with
the advancement in technology, business employees tend to be motivated to do
their work and tend to have more work accomplished. While business employee's
time have no significant relationship to technological advancement. Hence, we
can say that with the advancement in technology business employees tend to
work at the same duration or time than usual.

Chapter I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING
Introduction
In this modern world of repaid high-technology changes, technological
advancement will continue to accelerate the future. Technological advancement
change the organizational policies and strategies (Hampel and Martinsons,
2009).In any organization, most of challenges are generated by competition,
advanced technology, enhancing employee efficiency and repaid growth, new
leadership and management (Madsen et al., 2005).Most of the research has
shown that employee attitude and behaviors need to be develop for successful
organizational performance (Bernerth, 2004). Our life has been tied with
technologies since our born, from the technologies and machines used in
hospitals to the smart watches on our hand, technologies have become one of
the most essential things in our life.
Technological advancement has enabled organizations to employ people
while still producing at higher-than-subsistence levels of output. Using simple
technologies or no technologies at all can lead to full employment but cannot
lead to efficient production or improve standards of living. Therefore, technology
is important. However, the rate at which technological advancements are
embraced leaves little to be desired as many people may end up unemployed. It
would be more prudent to control the adoption of technologies in some
productivity areas.
7
Digital technologies cause slow job creation, reduce the number of jobs
and cause painful shock to workers as they are forced to adjust their skills.
Additionally, entrepreneurs tend to exploit new technologies, causing existing
skills to become redundant. Businesses may be forced to invest more in the
training of workers (Spitz-Oener). The need to reduce the total costs will also
force them to hire fewer workers (Spitz-Oener). The exploitation of digital
technologies is being facilitated by the availability of data, personnel and enough
computing power. The large-scale adoption of digital technologies is causing
long-term involuntary unemployment. This study is an attempt to understand and
to know the impacts of technological advancement to business employee’s
performance.
Background of the Study
Technologies have been undergoing a drastic transformation over time,
there is always new creations and innovation that appear in the market.
Technologies have become one of the most essential things in our life. The
reason for the high acceptance of technologies in an organization is because
technology is one of the most significant elements that related to effective
operations management in an organization (Ahmad, 2014). According to Odeh
(2019), business transparency and efficiency is found to increase when there is a
use of technology in the organization. With the advance and dynamic growth of
technologies, how fast the consumers are accepting these technologies depends
on a number of factors such as availability of technology, convenience,
8
consumers’ adoption of new technologies (Meuter, Ostrom, Roundtree, & Bitner,
2000). Moreover organizations purchase the advance technological tool for
improving the employee’s performance, facilitated job-tasks, improved
communication, increased efficiencies, and higher-levels of effectiveness in work
management. The introduction of advance technology has changed the way of
performing job. Technological advancement improved the employee performance
as well as less the employee working effort and task. completion time. New
technology is not only essential for company or government; it is also important
for nation. Companies cannot run with old technologies.
Technology increase human performance when human or employees use
technology for the benefits of the organization and use with ethical values.
Individual person cannot adopt technology easily and on the other side group of
people can adopt technology easily. New technology can be used for both
purposes for break or for make purpose. Employee work load reduce through
technological advancement. Number of employees to perform one task is also
reduced. Companies require not much more employees to perform one job.
Human effort is also reduced through technological advancement. Single
employee can perform its job without any hurdle. The negative impacts of
technology regarding businesses are usually in the form of loss in business,
social security, and cut down on the progress of employees. The negative effects
of information technology can vary in different businesses and what technology is
being used for more or less important work. The researcher felt the need to
determine the impact of technological advancement in the employee`s
9
performance in the business sector. The researcher wants to assess the effects
of technological advancement in the performance of business employees in the
different local businesses in Nagcarlan, Laguna.

CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES AND LITERATURE
This chapter contains the related studies and literature published that
has direct or indirect connection to the topic discussed in this research.
Review of Related Literature
Technologies can only lead to increased productivity or improve
performance when combined with other resources effectively by human
resources or when done effectively, and use technology productively and
ethically (Dauda & Akingbade, 2011). Besides, based on Imran et al. (2014), the
employee’s performance will be influenced by technological advancement. Most
of the studies have repeatedly proved that appropriate technology adoption will
have a positive relationship with the employee’s performance.
Resource-based theory suggests that a firm’s resources are extremely
important for the firm’s development, and that human capital is a key resource of
a firm. The function of this resource depends on the employees’ ability and
enthusiasm, and on efficient human resource management (Mumford, 2000).
Technological advancement comes from internal advancement and
internal advancement comes from employee capability. So there is a close
relationship between technological advancement and employee performance
(Huselid, 1995).
14
According to Odeh (2019), business transparency and efficiency is found
to increase when there is a use of technology in the organization. With the
advance and dynamic growth of technologies, how fast the consumers are
accepting these technologies depends on a number of factors such as availability
of technology, convenience, consumers’ adoption of new technologies (Meuter,
Ostrom, Roundtree, & Bitner, 2000)
Advancement makes employees more effective and firm more efficient
(Lawless and Anderson, 1996). Technological advancement can improve firm
performance as well (Li and Deng, 1999).
According to contingency theories (Burns and Stalker, 1994; Liker et al.,
1999) technology is a means to reduce uncertainty and increase competitiveness
for organizations (Parker et al., 2017). Therefore, the effects of technology on the
employee depend on strategic decisions that fit the organizational environment
best. When operational uncertainty is high, organizations get more competitive
by using technology to enhance the flexibility of employees in order to enable a
self-organized adaption to the changing environment (Cherns, 1976).
Some researchers also mentioned that the implementation of advanced
technology within the organization will create techno stress to the organization
members. (Ho-Jin, & Cho, 2016). Techno stress occurs when the employee has
a low level of skill and knowledge to perform the task which will have a significant
influence on job performance and productivity, as well as role stress. Through the
15
prior research, the cause of techno stress will directly influence the achievement
of the organization (Im & Han, 2013).
As mentioned by Hampel and Martinsons (2009), adopting new
technology will change the organizational policies and strategies. In most of the
organization, the challenges they faced is generated by the advanced
technology, competition in the industry, improving employee efficiency, new
leadership, and management (Madsen et al., 2005). Much research has shown
that employee behaviors and attitudes need to be developed in order to enhance
organizational performance (Bernerth, 2004).

According to Sis International Research (n.d.) quantitative
research is a structured way of collecting and analysing data obtained
from different sources. Quantitative research involves the use of
computational, statistical, and mathematical tools to derive results. It is
conclusive in its purpose as it tries to quantify the problem and understand
how prevalent it is by looking for projectable results to a larger
population.
