Face Negotiation Theory
It is found that people behave differently in social media compared in real life.
Media outlets such as Facebook, TikTok and Instagram encourages people to express
themselves in a more dramatically enhanced manner while covering up the not-so
attractive parts of their bodies and even attitudes. Of course, this leads to a drastic
change of identity. People can create Instagram accounts and cover themselves with a
good amount of filter that can fool everyone on the internet. The best part is, they can
do this anonymously. In some way, this helps build up the confidence of the people that
really need it. Other times, it becomes the channel of vanity and deception. All in all, it
just boils down to how responsible you are in using these outlets and to how much self-
awareness you have.
