Problems:

1. Determine the vertical displacement of joint A. Assume the members are pin connected
at their end points. Use the method of virtual work. A = 2 𝑖𝑛! E = 29 (10" )

2. Solve Problem 1 using Castigliano’s theorem.


3. Determine the vertical displacement of joint C of the truss shown in the figure below.
Assume that A = 0.5 in! , E = 29 × 10" ksi.

4. Solve Problem 3 using Castigliano’s theorem.
