Well, today is our first day of home visits! We are going to over 10 houses today and splitting the
rest over the next two afternoons (after school). One thing I really wanted to get done in time for the
home visits were homework binders. For most of my kids' homework, I send home a packet of
worksheets at their appropriate level in a home work folder each day. But, for my kids who can't
write, this system doesn't work. So, what I have done in the past, is make a binder of work (similar
to their morning group binder) for these kids to keep at home. This is a great way for students to get
extra practice and for parents to see what their child is capable of doing independently. Here are

Adaptive learning for English vocabulary This year, I found out that the all of the second graders at
my school would need to read a BIOGRAPHY of a famous person and then write a report on it! So
I created an Easy Biography Graphic Organizer and Book Report Lapbook for them! It turned out
to be a GREAT way to introduce them to writing a first biography! So while my first graders were
writing their insect reports (see last week's post on that!) I needed to have my second graders
working on their biographies. So what is a combination class teacher to do? The biography reports
were similar in format to the insect lapbook so that I could try to work with both groups at the same
time. Luckily, I was able to introduce the concept of the biographies and do a practice one with the
second graders alone one day when all of the first graders left on an all day field trip. Thank
goodness! Basically, I think that the procedure I did actually worked out pretty well, and their
reports came out very nicely! In a sense, July 2014 I've been thinking about using this idea in my
seventh grade classroom this year, but I added the column: When Will It Be Done? This gives the
students ownership of when they will get it done and helps them remember that it still needs to be
done. For example, when you finish a math worksheet, put it in the math section of your binder.

August 2017 These are great just printed off 4 complete sets to put together for my 4 grandchildren
(it will be their parents homemade gift for Christmas- I try every year to make or put together
something personal from me as one of their gifts). I saw in a picture that you had a spine on the
binders but didnt see where I could download that, did I miss it? Thank you Thank you this is

will be glad they are all ready for when they are ready for school. December 2008 I was able to add
my kids’ names using Adobe Reader XI. Click on “Comment” at the top right, then on the “Drawing
Markups” subheading. Then click on the first icon which is “Add Text Box”. Click on where you
want the name to go, type it in and then press Ctrl+E. This will bring up a toolbox that will allow
you to edit the font style, colour, size, etc. If you select the Text Box you will be able to edit its
